Here's a classic:

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.
I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
He said, "Like what?"
I said, "Well, are you religious or atheist?"
He said, "Religious."
I said, "Me too! Are you Christian or Jewish?"
He said, "Christian."
I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?
He said, "Baptist!"
I said, "Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?
He said, Baptist Church of God!"
I said, "Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"
He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!"
I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"
He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"
I said, "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.

Letter to the editor: 'Queen Hillary' is soft on terror

http://www.publicopiniononline.com/opinion/ci_7833643

Okay, is there something in the water around here I should know about?

Is Weddle cloning? If he is, I hope Marlin doesn't decide to start, too.

P.O. Do you think you could not have these types of L.T.T.E online? That way we can trick more people into moving here, maybe get some chlorine in the gene pool. Confused

Post removed by author and placed in proper thread. (I couldn't find it earlier and thought it had been removed.)

that was my point at the beginning of this thread. These types of letters are not furthering any debate. They are intellectual garbage aimed at selling newspapers. They are not meant to communicate any ideas.

This is why I started a weekend washington post subscription, and will probably never subscribe to the PO. I want actual thoughts and ideas in the paper, not sensationalized letters meant to fire people up. I understand from a business perspective however why they do this, but in the long run they are harming themselves, and the people in the area.

A.C. - I just posted a challenge in the Evil Hillary letter discussion to see if anyone is interested in a civil debate on the merits of a candidate for president. I honestly don't believe that the conservatives there can refrain from attacks and name calling - the reason they largely don't post here - but I thought I'd give them an opening.

We'll see. Anyone want to make odds on the likelihood of a rational discussion over there?

i agree. i find it odd that this board is largely liberal, when the area seems to agree that "lib" is an insult. I think you're exactly right though, when pressed to argue rationally conservatives can't, and thus avoid this board. for the most part I find this place actually has some good discussion, unlike the PO editorials, or most stuff on topix/haloscan.

Well I tried and failed. The conservative side can't seem to refrain from the attacks. It's almost like they actually aren't capable of it.

why should anyones' opinion no matter how whacky be left out of reader's comments? if free speech of others bother people so much that they walk away from the discussion, then it just lends more creedence to the idiot section.

there s LOTS of nuts who write to the washington post. you don t see them because they are censored to make way for the yuppie/boomer viewpoint. the post panders to "intellectuals" instead of "local yokels"

guess everyone needs a marketing scheme Laughing

at least PO publishes everybody regardless of race color creed political affiliation or mental state.

the only thing these idiots around here fire up is poopy reefer and pickup trucks.

Good luck with that. I had two Washington paper scripts and people across the street kept sending their kids to steal them.

It was our official welcome to Chambersburg!

I'd like to think they were reading it, but I'm more inclined to believe they stole it for the coupons and comics.

That's not entirely true, if the people I've talked to are truthful. One well-educated man who I hardly ever agree with on political or environmental issues has not had a letter published in the past few years (he writes at least one a month.)

The editors have a motive. I'm not completely sure of their thinking, but there is a method. It probably has to do with online ad pricing or some such.
