Pleeeeeease, someone I'm begging you! I want this under my Christmas tree/Chanukkah bush/Kwanza kinara/Asa'a leg of lamb.
YULEE, Fla. - Stumped about what to give that special someone this Christmas? How about some rhino poop? The International Rhino Foundation is auctioning separately on eBay four pieces of dung from the endangered species and will use the proceeds to fund conservation efforts.
The pieces come from four of the five types of rhino: white, black, Indian and Sumatran. The Javan rhino is so rare, a sample could not be collected.
Each piece is dried, mounted in a clear trophy case and marked with the type of rhino that produced it.
The auction ends Sunday and as of Thursday afternoon bidding had been light, with the top bid for Sumatran rhino poop standing at $500. Black rhino poop was standing at $255, Indian was at $250 and white was at $122.50.
The foundation, which is based at the White Oak Conservation Center, says only about 17,500 rhinos remain in the wild with another 1,200 living in captivity.

| I heard a feature story on NPR once about how they make a "gourmet" coffee out of civet cat poop in one of the Asian countries. It's very expensive. I know this is irrelevant, but I thought I'd share it anyway! |

Mavis,
You are almost right. They actually go looking for the poop to get the, ummm shall we say "pre-roasted", beans. Once the beans are all gathered (can you say YUCK!) they sell those yummy beans for about $200 a pound.
I can hear the song now...The best part of waking up is cat poop in your cup!  |

| Unfortunately, WETA went all-classical and I can't get WITF where I live, so right now I sometimes get NPR out of West Virginia. But I heard that WITF is planning to boost its signal strength or get a new frequency to improve coverage in Franklin County. I can't wait -- I miss Car Talk especially! |

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!!!
I actually gave money to WETA just weeks before it went all classical. I was outraged and even wrote a letter "asking" for my donation back so that I could donate it to a station that actually provided a news service I was interested in. I was told "too bad."
I don't get any NPR station clearly anymore, but I do get two technically; West Virginia PR as you mentioned and WITF out of Harrisburg, but only sporadically and in certain parts of town. West Virginia is awful though, mostly because during my morning commute it falls into the half hour stretch of WV-only news. And boy, that's a depressing story. Everything is about how poor living conditions are there; bad schools, lousy paying government jobs and incessant brain drain. It's as if Franklin County were an entire state! (I kid!).
Car Talk is easily my favorite thing on the weekends and thankfully their shows are available for free online, but it isn't the same as when I used to go for random, Saturday morning drives just to hear Click and Clack, the Tappit Bros. |

Only the greatest NPR show ever; it's on weekends mostly, but it's hosted by Ira Glass. It's an hour-long, non-fiction show that chronicles some sort of theme about... well, American life. But it's not like 60 Minutes or those boring news magazine shows. It's truly interesting, and what makes it great is the host, Glass.
It's often a first-person narrative from someone, or many people. It can be one person's story, or a huge story from the perspective of many people. For instance, one of the best episodes I heard was a woman describing her awful neighbors. On the flip side, another great episode chronicled the lives of many Katrina survivors. But it's not specifically a topical or current-events show... it's just about something and that can be anything and that's probably why I think it's so great.

I want a puppy for Christmas, or any day. Yeah, yeah at my age!!
My hubby says "no" because of my health. He thinks it would be too much of a strain on me to train the new puppy. I say pishaw (or however you spell it)! |

I tried to post with URLs but due to not being registered for at least 5 days I was not allowed. So.....
I want a cabin in Montana, a metallic blue Jeep Rubicon with off trail package, and of course, peace on earth...

Booo to your hubby! Mean ol' hubband!
Is your heart set on a puppy or are you open to pound dogs?
I like puppies, don't get me wrong, but unwanted grown 'poopies' tug at my heart strings, especially the ones who were given up for health reasons. (If I was a horse, I would've been shot a few years ago)
As for training, there is a local Petsmart, at the very least you could pay someone else to train it. (I tried to train mine, they tried to train me and somewhere along they way, we came to an understanding)
Please Santa, bring Queen a canine...
