Been there many times and have never been disappointed; food is great. Authentic barbecue made in a huge, mobile smoker they have in the back. Great ribs and pulled pork. Original beer selections and micros on tap. Huge bar.
A nice venue for bands too; a small stage but people enjoy going to see bands which actually play in the dining area rather than the bar area (it's a strange setup). I think "Thique" was the name of the band I saw play there twice and I thought it was great.
Fountainhead Plaza is just off the Maugan's Ave exit after crossing into MD; it's in a shopping center with a Martin Foods. The area desperately needed a place like this. |

Glad to read your reply...I infact love the place. The food is great, craving it right now  Yeah a great selection of drinks...The stage is indeed wierd and playing toward the dining room I don't understand. But for me most importantly are the owners. Real cool folks to work with. I met them after playing there when they first opened and they welcome in so many acts from out of the area. GO EAT MEAT~ |

| I think they said they no longer brew their beer own which stinks, I like being able to try new stuff, are there any other places in the area that do??? |

Hempen Hill never brewed their own; their in-house beers were contract brewed through Clay Pipe brewery in Westminster (or maybe Wild Goose in Frederick; one of the two). They were sold under the Hempen Hill name; doesn't mean they weren't excellent though, although I think they were sold commercial under different names.
Otherwise, they'd be a brewpub (something the area is in DESPERATE need of). There are two great brewpubs in Frederick; Barley & Hops and Brewer's Alley. Both are excellent in my opinion, particularly if the former has a cask-conditioned ale available.
There's also Appalachian Brewing Company in Gettysburg, as well as Camp Hill and Harrisburg. There used to be one or two other Gettysburg brewpubs open seasonally, but they were awful and are thankfully closed.
The Market Cross Pub in Carlisle has a selection of beers brewed in-house that are excellent (I recommend the brown and imperial stout).
If you feel like venturing even farther than that, there are two great brewpubs in Gaithersburg: the Dogfish Head Brewpub and Growler's.
Lancaster Brewing Company recently opened a brewpub in the former Doc Holliday's off Progress Ave in Harrisburg. I haven't been there yet.
If you're ever in the Mount Joy area, I highly recommend Bube's Brewery as well.
Just to throw a few curve balls, if you're ever in Pittsburgh, you have to visit the Church Brew Works, which is a church converted into a brewpub! Brilliant! And the entire, greater Philadelphia area is literally packed with great brewpubs. |

| I have been to Appalachain in Gettysburg, also I have been to Church Brew Works in Pburgh and yes it is brilliant!!! My s/o went to the Dogfish head Brewpub and said he really liked it too. |

Iron Hill is good; better food than other local brewpubs, but my favorite in the outlying area is probably McKenzie's if not for sheer selection (they actually brew a Biere de Garde... available now). |

Speaking of their food, I ordered their bucket of fries once, assuming a "bucket" was just their term for an order of fries.
Oh no, I had an entire metal bucket of seasoned fries, literally.
They were good, but holy crap. |
