Does anyone else find it odd that the borough allows cars to be parked so close to intersections?

It hinders visibility of both drivers and pedestrians. People trying to park or exit spaces that are about 10 feet from intersections create a hazard. It contributes to a cluttered and uninviting look downtown.

I haven't seen this in other communities I've lived in. Just wondering why...

Because that's where they used to park the horse and buggy. Why would you expect them to change?

It is a very dangerous situation at many intersections.

Check out the area around CASHs. There is a large parking lot for students, yet they tolerate student parking on 6th Street, right to the corners end. Residents must py to park in front of their own homes. And that's who the rent a cops tickets if the permit falls off the mirror.

Talk about creating a fat and lazy future generation. Heck "I had to walk five miles to school", and they need to park as close as possible. Poor kiddys...

It's not just kids who are lazy. A woman who lives in my building (I won't name the street because it's a fairly prominent location on 30) parks a car she never drives and "plans" on selling (it's been sitting here for nearly 6 months, without "For Sale" signs) in front of our building when there's a public parking lot about a block away. Of course, she also parks the car she actually drives on the street as well. Makes it a pain in the butt for everyone who lives on the block to park because at times even when there is a place to park on the street, it's hard to get to because this stupid vehicle is in the way. A lot of times I end up having to park only a few feet from one of said intersections or I just suck it up and park in the aforementioned lot and walk the extra block. Perhaps I should offer to move it for her..

Is your neighbors car that she plans "on selling (it's been sitting here for nearly 6 months, without "For Sale" signs)" legally registerd with a plate? Is it in running order?

If no to either, call the cops and they have it ticketed and towed.

You really can't force people to obey stupid rules that don't have consequences or a logical purpose.

Well cookie, as a former CASHS student, perhaps you can shed light on the "why" students park there? I've heard it all from that you're lazy, inconsiderate, rude and part of a generally rotten generation of kids.

That seems to be the sentiment of everyone over the age of 35 for the past 200 years, but I think that the parking situation is really facilitated by a lack of planning and simply no consequences for parking where you want. I mean, residents think that you should park appropriately out of the goodness of your hearts and that seeing just one or two idiot high schoolers is enough to convince them that the lot of you are idiots.

So what's the story? Why's the parking so bad and what can be done to please the neighbors and the students?

Can anyone tell me if there are any Ordinances regarding parking in the front yard, not on a driveway, within the Boro?

There's a family in the neighborhood that has turned their front yard (which is VERY close to my front yard Evil or Very Mad

) into an excellent representation of the Russian Front in WW2 during the spring thaw.

Most small towns and some cities do not allow parking right to the corner of an intersection. It varies from what I have seen, from ten feet to fifteen feet from the corner of an intersection. The way the borough allows parking right at the corner, their are looking for an accident to happen. It is hard enough to get around downtown with all the double parking that goes on, let alone not being able to get around a corner because you dont know if some dummy is going to run the red light on you.

There's this bizarre struggle around here between people wanting to do what they want to do without being told otherwise, and the people who leave garbage, couches and cars all over their yards. I'm sorry, but there needs to be some sort of enforcement of this, if not because it makes our community look trashy, but at least because it's some sort of safety or fire hazard.
