Glad to be of help.
Don't get me wrong, I love my demon-monkey, but in retrospect, I probably shouldn't have bred, especially with my ex. (the current one has some pretty decent genes--so I'm debating) I was young then and didn't know what I was doing---come to think of it, I still don't know what I'm doing!

Anyone curb surfing this weekend?
I am. (I know, I rock)
DH is looking for bikes, computer towers and small engines---he's always looking for spare parts AND he decided he wants to build a generator (really, I think he just wants to see how much crud he can shove into the garage)
The boy wants suitcases, metal/aluminum boxes...yeah, I dunno, I lay a few ground rules and then let them loose.
... I get stuck driving so that they can stare out the windows. So if you are behind a Subaru Outback that's driving really slow and stupid, have mercy, it's not my fault, really...
I haven't even been able to put my stuff out on the curb yet! _________________ I demand euphoria! |

Since we've been hard on Chambersburg lately, I though I would share some good news straight from Mayor Lagiovane via his blog:
| Mayor Lagiovane wrote: | Folks,
With Spring here and Summer coming up I thought Icould use the blog to notify you of some of the things happening in the Borough:
1. Cinco De Mayo - we will celebrate this holiday in two ways. There will be a festival at Southgate Shopping center on Saturday, May 3rd. It will run from approximately 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be food, music (live bands and D.J.), and booths manned by local businesses. On Sunday, May 4th there will be a concert by the 55 person Carlisle Town Band at Memorial Park. It is free to the public and begins at 2:00 pm. It will feature a wide spectrum of Latin Music.
2. Cumberland Valley Film Club -- the CVFC was formed three months ago. It's goal is to provide quality foreign and independent movies to the people of our community. For now the CVFC will feature one showing a month, on the third Thursday of each month. The CVFC's first presentation was "Cinema Paradiso" on April 17th. Future showings are "Attonement" on May 15th and "La Vie En Rose" on June 19th. Membership in the CVFC is $20 per year and entitles you to discounted ticket prices and other goodies yet to be determined. For more information about the CVFC call Linda Boeckman at the Capitol Theater, 263-0202.
Please tell your friends and neighbors about these and other upcoming events. |
Now we're getting somewhere; both the Cinco De Mayo festival and subsequent music event, as well as the exciting film club are all things I'm looking forward to. I wish I had seen these sooner, and that the Public Opinion would display local events like these more prominently on their website, but I think it's definitely a good start.
I do plan on joining the local film club and I encourage all of you to do the same; it's only way we can get good things here and revitalize downtown... if people participate. |

I was thinking about joining the film group as well. I love film! I believe there was an article about the film group in the P.O. a week or so ago.
Hopfully I will be at the Cinco de Mayo festival as well.
There is a place opening up on N. Main St that appears to be a new restaurant that serves alcoholic beverages; also with renovated apartments upstairs.
Most larger cities revitalize downtowns by renovating old buildings and turning them into nice apartments and raising (for the area) the rent (thus keeping out trouble) and by bringing in restaurants that serve alcohol. _________________ alex |

yes, I believe that's the bistro which is benefiting from the economic development zone liquor license.
I'm not really sure how downtown Chambersburg could ever, truly be "revitalized" without significant investment in downtown businesses, development and, yes, the rezoning of residential homes thus displacing some low-income families.
That sort of thing certainly wouldn't sit so well, but hopefully having a nice restaurant where you can actually get a glass of wine or a cold beer will go a long way toward bringing a younger, and safer element to the area. |

It's not that far! It's exactly three hours from here to Chambersburg, or 198 miles.
Yes, there are a LOT of restaurants, most of which have outdoor seating and nearly ALL of them serve alcohol.
Interestingly, though, a locally owned stationery and office supply store downtown announced that it's closing up by the end of May. They're having a lot of trouble finding someone to buy the property, because no one wants to own a business downtown, even though our downtown area is super nice. Something about the economy and lack of vision...I don't remember exactly what the article said. |

Yeah, it's nice to visit, I guess. I actually haven't been in to the ice rink, though.
I have to walk down the mall to get to work every day. Today, there was a string duet playing and a lot of people drawing on the "freedom board" or whatever it's called. I saw two city council members having lunch outside. I had dinner on the mall tonight. It was very, very busy.
...and two homeless guys rather aggressively hit me up for change and there was some big fight and some guy started beating the crap out of this woman and the cops had to arrest a bunch of people.
Chambersburg should do Fridays After Five. Music, beer, fun, downtown. Take an example from here:

He sounds like a toolshed.
There are a lot of fun stores to browse around in. Fridays After Five just started. I walked down to get a slice of pizza before the mob showed up, and they were setting up the tables and the massive beer truck, and the band was warming up. I wish I had my camera with me so I could take a picture of the giant beer truck with the taps on the side.
Mmm, beer. |
