I agree, but I think most of the things I feel like complaining about already have topics.
I have a question though; I was traveling up I-81 North the other day and I was checking out the countryside. Right at about the point you're coming up on Chambersburg, just as the water tower is in view, I looked to the right and saw what seemed to be a huge, flat-topped dirt mound in the distance.
Is this some sort of quarry? |

I didn't know there was a landfill there either. |

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- A Maryland partnership wants to hold concerts and wedding receptions at the former Camp Robin Hood on Social Island Road south of Chambersburg.
The pavilion and grounds could accommodate 500 to 750 people, according to Mark Cooper, a partner with Cornerstone II LLC of Bowie, Md.
"We want to utilize that pavilion and bring some music to the hills," Cooper said. "We're planning on putting in a mini-Merriweather Post Pavilion."
The partnership would lease the grounds initially, and if all goes well after a couple of years, purchase the land, he said.
Cooper has been asking Hamilton Township supervisors what would be necessary to open a facility.
Supervisors are concerned about sewage and traffic:
The site is not connected to a public sewer.
Social Island Road, a state road, and its one-lane humpback bridge has a long history of crashes.
Supervisor Michael Kessinger said he is not sure if the narrow lane leading to the campground and three homes from Social Island Road has been ordained to the township. Supervisors, however, have maintained it for more than 25 years.
Camp Robin Hood, founded in 1925, was open at least until 1990. The camp hosted girls from the Washington, D.C., area and across the world.
Most recently, a group of doctors of the Sikhism faith owned the camp, Cooper said. During the summer they sent their children to the camp to instill the Sikh ideology and culture in them. The children

have grown and the camp hasn't been used in two years.
"The property has been let go," Cooper said. "It needs a lot of work. What appeals to me: It's quiet. It's got a good space and is very family friendly. I would not mind taking my wife and kids to see an outdoor music event there."
Supervisors would consider the camp a commercial venture, not just an occasional retreat, according to Kessinger.
The septic system must be tested because it hasn't been used in more than a year.
"The septic system has to be adequate," Kessinger said. "Anywhere you have potable water, you have to have a system to dispose of potable water. We requested he do a load test to confirm what's there and what the system is capable of doing."
If the system passes, the center could open in June, Cooper said. Failure would require an investment of more than $200,000 before the partnership could open a venue. The test may have to wait until spring.
Cooper and his two partners, whom he identified as a lawyer and a retired government employee, had originally considered the camp for children interested in writing music and managing music businesses.
"It needs so much work before someone would let their child stay there for two weeks," Cooper said. "We looked at the stage. It was pretty sound and didn't need that much work."
Cooper said he has worked 10 years in music production and promotion, including five years as a producer with Vital Marketing of New York. He's arranged events hosting 60 to 10,000 people.
The pavilion off Social Island Road could host country music and rock-and-roll concerts, Cooper said. The target audience lives locally and northwest of Gaithersburg, Md.
Cooper said he would manage traffic during events.
"I'm going to bend over backwards to make sure the public is safe," Cooper said.
Cooper said he would hire off-duty police to direct traffic during events and "to make sure people aren't partying too hard."
"Roads? Not too much I can do about that," Cooper said. "The main road has houses on it. It's tough to widen it." |

| This actually sounds pretty cool, but what a horrible location. I would never go down Social Island Road if I can help it... and I can always help it. |

I wouldn't exactly call the road "fine." I mean, it is the 21st century. I realize the road can't be changed, but traffic is heavy enough in my opinion that even if everyone is courteous and respectful, it's still a pain in the butt. |

RottenH said he isn't sure but there is a gravel pit in that area that you might have seen. There were talks to expand it...

| You know, that probably was a gravel pit. I might just drive in that direction one day to find out. |

Anyone looking for a dog?
I went to CVAS yesterday and they have a really nice selection of dogs right now. Sadly, I cannot adopt them all.

They have a recently neutered red doberman,Kerberos, he muttered (probably b!tching about the lost huevos) and had a very low toned bark, only gave two as we were walking away, not at all yippy.
There were two beagles that I saw, I'm pretty sure one has some basset in him, he was such a sweetie!
A hound named Huckleberry, who is all hound! (he was using his bed as a springboard to, quite literally, bounce off the wall!)
Then there was a pointer who was much more low key, very friendly.
A very loving black and white lab mix named Duffield
Of course, there were some rott mixes, pit mixes (Sasha was a sweetie) I tend to over look those babies.
I was surprised that the shelter was not overflowing with cats (then I remembered they keep some at Petsmart now)

Poor Pandora has been there over a year! (there apparently is a deep discount for adopting long-term residents)
Noel, a long hair, had some really beautiful coloration. (A tortoise with some cinnamon/strawberry coloring)
Adopt some babies so it is safe for me to go back there!!!

I know that CVAS works with PetSmart's pet adoption center, but it seems to be cats only. Any reason why dogs are not provided for adoption by CVAS to PetSmart?

I was a foster mom for puppies long ago in another state. We would have adoption days in the back of Petsmarts one weekend a month, but dogs are not housed there for the same reason cats make such great pets:maintenance. Cats just need food, water and a litterbox, they don't care if you're there or not.
Jeeze Coppy stop breaking the page! Yeah, it was really my fault, but I'm blaming you. _________________ I demand euphoria! |
