Just an FYI.

SigOth and I went to The Cottage tonight at 5pm for a light dinner (we were feeling wings) and a quick beer. Closed. Despite a sign proclaiming their hours as: "Sunday-Wednesday 11am-12am." It's a lie. They're not open, dining room or bar area. Six pack "to-go" seemed open, but I wasn't willing to go in and complain. Just so you know. Also, The Cottage requires reservations so that their "regulars" will always have a seat. It is mediocre food, but hey, don't want to upset the regulars. They'd rather have tables sit empty on a Friday/Saturday night rather than seat otherwise willing patrons. This is kind of the last straw for me and The Cottage. I'm ready to just give up on them (I was prompted to stop in tonight since their sign is advertising a new beer on-tap).

Feeling like wings and beer anyway, decided to try "Relax" at The Orchards. Also closed, 5 PM Sunday. Strike 2 Chambersburg.

Actually strike 2 and 3. Where else could I possibly go, in Chambersburg, for wings and beer on a Sunday night? Dilly's is an abomination of grossness. I will never consume food there again as long as I live so whether or not they were open is a moot point. The Norland Pub? No thanks, I have self-respect. Doubt they were open either.

"Oh, boo hoo, woes me, the chains are taking over and destroying all of our local establishments, boo hoo, I hate chains, they're running hard-working folks out of business boo hoo"

I'd love to see these so-called "local establishments" run out of business so that maybe, just maybe, their liquor licenses can be put to use to actually be of a convenience to local customers. We're not ALL at church on Sunday night. Really, can you believe it?

Want to know the only beer-serving restaurants in town open on Sunday night? OK, here: Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, Red Robin and TGI Friday's. If you think of any more, let me know.

Geez, The Cottage isn't the only thing closed on Sunday evening. You can all respond when you get back from church... on Monday morning!

Flannery's in Mercersburg is OPEN every Sunday!!!

They just got Belle's Brown Ale back on tap - delicious (but damn pricey!)

Take the back way!

The Norland Pub is actually open on Sundays right now. However I believe shortly after football season ends they do close on Sundays. At least they have in years past. I actually think their beer selection is half decent as well.

Coppy I get the feeling you're not a fan of the Norland Pub. Just curious as to why?

Flannery's is nice, but I never really got a response as to whether or not their bar menu was different from their dinner menu; can I got there on a Friday, Saturday or even Sunday evening and just get a sandwich or some wings? Because the last time I went, it was all hoity-toity fancy stuff. It's a bar... I figured it would be more casual.

I am a big fan of Brown Ales, and no one should let the price deter them; you can get much more enjoyment from drinking half as many of those as you can some wussy light macro lager.

As for the Norland Pub, I wouldn't say I'm not a fan; they've done a good job differentiating themselves from dives like Dilly's, but I guess I didn't consider it because I just assumed they wouldn't be open on Sunday like everything else. I'm also not all that impressed with their on-tap selection and even their bottled beers are nothing to get excited about. The food I have had there has been pretty good; how are their wings?

Speaking of, anyone have wing recommendations for Chambersburg? Every once in a while I just feel like some beer and wings; doesn't get much more American than that. Cool Spicy foods tend to scare locals away though so that's why I assumed there wasn't much out there.

I couldn't agree more Cool

After some probing, I discovered that The Cottage may have been closed this past Sunday due to an employee function.

Coppy - they do have a separate Bar/Sandwich menu...

Your memory is correct - but they have changed that - you can order off either menu at any time.

Flannery's just hired on some of the old Pats Pub and Grill staff...most notably the old house manager...

So - things are looking up...

That's great news! Maybe my complaint about it from a weeks ago was noticed Razz

I'll be sure to give them another try, I'm not going to write them off. I walked out because I wanted to sit in the quiet, dining area and just have a beer and a burger or something since the bar area was pretty full.

The bar and the dining menu are different. For some reason they stopped serving the bar menu in the dining room, this was the case last week. TH has this changed again? Are they serving the bar menu in the dining room again? It's almost time for a Guinness I'll report back later.

I agree that their tap selection leaves a lot to be desired besides maybe Newcastle. As far as the bottled beer selection goes, I think it's as good as anywhere in Chambersburg besides maybe Relax. It's by no means the selection that Market Cross or Kclingers has though.

Their wings are ok, but they're breaded wings. I prefer wings that aren't, but that's just my preference.

Ah, Norland has breaded wings; I think that says a lot about a wing place. Sometimes I'm in the mood for breaded, but I also prefer them without.

I don't really consider going to a place that doesn't have a decent, or at least relatively rotating selection. Norland doesn't, and I'm sure that suits their Miller-Bud-Coors patrons just fine. I do prefer Relax because of their bottle selection (they have Arrogant Bastard!!!) but Relax gives me a weird vibe. An unusual demographic shows up there on Friday nights. Nothing like Dilly's or, ugh, Razzles, but unusual nonetheless. Kind of a local yuppy + soccer mom hipster wannabes. It's actually pretty good for people watching.

In any case, I don't usually go there in the winter because their indoor seating is pretty minimal (and they tend to leave several tables reserved). It's also not a room big enough to make live bands very practical (but they certainly make do).

Nice to hear of someone who knows about Kclinger's. Every so often I'll make the ridiculous drive out to Hanover just to sample what they have on their amazing selection of taps. I think they have a hand pump too; Market Cross certainly does, but I'll almost always go to the Carlisle one. I wish the Shippensburg Market Cross opened the dining area for people who just want a beer after 9 PM.

If anyone loves beer as much as I do, I'd be interested in talking about it Cool
