Here is a fun little game to play: Is the performer offered up a movie star or an actor.

For Example: George Clooney is a great Movie Star. He plays himself in everything. I cannot think of a role where he was not George.

Christian Bale is an actor. From one movie to the next he actually plays different roles and is quite good at it.

So my first offering for debate:

Robert De Niro

Actor... then movie star. The switch occurred sometime around Once Upon a Time in America...

Okay, my turn:

Julia Roberts

Movie Star.

She was rewarded with an oscar for playing herslef and adding curse words to her list of talents. Bravo Ms. Roberts, Bravo.

I agree about Bobby, by the way. Its a shame.

Next John Saxon.

Ooh tough one.

Let's see. Enter the Dragon = John Saxon. Nightmare on Elm Street = John Saxon. Mitchell = John Saxon.

I guess since that's pretty much the sum total of my John Saxon experience, I'm going to go with movie star. (Incidentally, The John Saxon Experience would make a fine name for a band...)

Okay, how about:

Keifer Sutherland

I would say Keifer is an actor. He has shown diversity over his career and not stayed the mulleted vampire from lost boys. He was down right creepy as the white supremacist in A Time to Kill. His odd doctor from Dark City was a stand out as well.

How about for no reason:

Milla Jovovich

Yes, a hot movie star. I can't remember her ever uttering a line. I'm sure she did, but I just can't remember it.

Okay, now for the big guns:

Patrick Stewart

I mean, when was the last time you saw him playing a character not in command of something?

Is it not a bit presumptuous to refer to some of these individuals as stars?

I think he has become a movie star. I remember his role in Conspiracy theory were he was evil and had his nose bitten.

Elijah Wood?

Hot movie star, but maybe Woody will, erm, broaden her horizons. There's potential, and I'm holding out hope...

Meanwhile:

John Travolta
