Ha! Jack Palance! Pennsylvania boy makes good!

I've heard (but not actually seen) that Jack was a decent actor back in the day. Unfortunately, I only know him from City Slickers and Angel's Revenge, when he was deep in the mires of (unintentional?) self-parody.

Okay, let's stick with the westerns for a while:

Clint Eastwood

Eastwood's single best performance - Bronco Billy.

I would have to call him a Movie Star, that does not mean I don't like what he plays!

John Wayne was the same guy in every movie.

Not that there is anything Wrong with that.

Gotta go with movie star. His roles have had variety, but he himself, not so much... But still better than George Clooney.

Okay: Matt Damon

I think Matt is an actor. He avoided the Affleck with applesauce.

Not familiar with her work, was she on the Real World Vegas?

Seriously I feel foolish, I know the name, just not the performer. Very Happy

Consider two of us who feel foolish for not knowing... I cheated using IMDB. She played Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With the Wind AND Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire. Perhaps her lack of name recognitions stems from the fact that those were her only two prominent (yet historic) roles.

Knew about Gone With the Wind, but forgot about Streetcar...

Anyway I didn't answer because sometimes it seems difficult to classify the old school Hollywood personalities. They were all movie stars back then, but most could also act.

Something to ponder. What made the distinction possible/necessary in later years? Worse writing? Breakdown of the studio system? An increasingly vacuous movie-going public?

Anyway:

Al Pacino

Pacino ceased acting with Scent of a Woman and has been screaming ever since.

Will Smith started as a movie star and has become an actor IMO. I was drug to I Am Legend, thinking I would see more of Independence Day / Bad Boys Will Smith, instead I think he showed some chops.

Way to go Mr. Smith.

Clive Owen?
