The winner would try to hit the loser over the head before they could get the helmet on.

Sheer. Genius.

In the 70's I use to go watch them film "Match Game 74 or 75 or 76". You wouldn't believe how many times they would have to break tape to start over. Charles Nelson Reily and Brett Sommers were such cut ups! Betty White was on there so much; she was a hoot and naughty! Most of her answers had to be thrown out and another question asked! Thanks for the memory!

That is great! I wish I could have seen that.

I heard a rumor that they are going to bring it back.

As a pathway from my discussion about how I enjoyed the British version of The Office with subtitles, I can say that I enjoyed Extras, immensely, without them.

Perhaps I got in tune with my inner Brit. Or maybe Ricky Gervais is a comedic genius. He IS a comedic genius.

Coppy fact- I HATE Monty Python.

LOL, I must have missed your comment about The BBC Office. I tried watching it and realized that I needed the subtitles.

My favorite episode of Extras is a toss up between the one with Patrick Stewart and Daniel Radcliff.

Similar to the Bad Tv thread, but the flip-side!

Old Time: I think one of the best shows from a by gone era, which is available on DVD in its entirety....The Prisoner.

If you have a rental source (brick and mortar or online) and have not seen this show, check it out.

On the Air: Battlestar Galactica

If you can get over Starbuck and Boomer being women, and actually get into the show it worthwhile tv.

(Also for the Dr. Who fan that grew up, check out Torchwood on BBC America)

DVR = Good
I never could get over Boomer and Starbuck as women, sorry. I love Dr. Who (esp. with David Tennant but, I love the old ones too with tom Baker of course) and I love Torchwood too. another fav. is Jericho and I'm a Stargate fan as well.

Too late; the series started out strong but lagged halfway through and lost a lot of viewers. Just when it really started to get good again (and I mean it really did get very good) it was too late... viewership had dropped off and CBS canceled after the first season.

Then a grassroots, Internet campaign mobilized to bring the series back based on a line in the show, "Nuts!" (you'd have to see it). Fans of the show sent thousands of nuts, literally, to CBS executives who were persuaded to give the show another chance--in the form of 7 new mid-season episodes--after both the campaign and figures indicating that viewership was high among DVR and online viewers.

Doesn't matter though; the second season premier was the lowest in its time slot, with a Law & Order: SVU repeat gaining more than twice as many viewers. It looks like Jericho will have a premature ending, which is too bad, since most potential fans probably never had the chance to give it a chance.

I see it gaining some postmortem popularity, but it seems destined to wrap up after these 7 episodes (5 to go).

On a personal note, despite its cheesy, romantic subtexts, the show is legitimately well-written and entertaining. Skeet Ulrich is pretty impressive in the role of a "prodigal son." It is sort of a post-apocalyptic mash-up of Lost and 24.

Anyone watch the first season of Breaking Bad this year? It was a new series on AMC. They only had about 7 or 8 shows because of the writers strike, but I really enjoyed it. I hope they bring it back for a second season.

In my absence I have discovered two new shows.

Unbeatable Banzuke
Frisky Dingo

I am enamored.

I must say sorry to the Jericho fans, I see that it has been canceled.

Also BSG starts the final season on Friday!

G4 is an abomination to those of us who loved TechTV. At least we have Podcasts... but it's not the same. G4 couldn't be more obvious about its intended audience; males, ages 15-20 with no prospects of a girlfriend or social life and an unhealthy obsession with video games and comic books (and I mean unhealthy obsession; not a normal obsession).

The entire network is oozing with all kinds of underlying sexual innuendo that is neither clever nor subversive; it's the jokes geeky, sex-crazed teenagers tell in the middle school locker room.

The criticism among TechTV (and even original G4) fans that the channel has absolutely nothing unique or interesting to offer anymore is certainly warranted.

See:
Unbeatable Banzuke
and
Cheaters
Very Happy

Yes, God yes the way too obvious tight-fitting, low cut shirts on the 'gamer' girls is laughable along with the stupid camera angles. The minute spot of words that sound dirty but really aren't, where the cute chick purrs "Show me your coccyx, baby. Yeah, whip it out. Now shake it around for me." was kinda funny the first time, but was already tiresome by the tenth time they showed it in one hour.

But I can't get my Cheaters anywhere else and the Japanese game shows can be pretty wonderful.
