Hello ya'll. Been lurkin' for awhile and decided to finally speak up. Howdy.
About your post, .45chel, I could not agree more. Obama is nothin' more than the flavor of the month. It's unfortunate but in this day and age, electability is based on how likeable you are, if you're hot, etc. - not what you know and how you would perform on the job. It's a sad commentary. |

Your post reminded me about an interesting article on the topic of how voters make their decisions. It was in last week's Newsweek called "When It's Head versus Heart, the Heart Wins." Here's an excerpt:

I've always suspected that most people vote based "likability" rather than on issues, even though we can all point to the issues that we like about our candidate. And when I reflect honestly, I think I probably have picked candidates based on my gut then used their policies to support my decision intellectually. Sorry for being part of the problem.  |

Most likely.
Obama will probably pick some old white guy to balance the ticket.
Come to think of it, Clinton probably will too.
More importantly, I have to figure out what I'm going to pay attention to now to keep fromhaving a life.

I'm not sure. Candidates say all kinds of things (or nothing at all, to the extent they can) to get elected. But what they do once they get there is often an entirely different matter. Candidates know they can say anything and do the complete opposite once in office because if there's one thing 42 proved, it's that we'll never impeach another president again.
So is relying on policy statements any more reliable than relying on your (media filtered) judgment of character?
