What sort of work would you do if you had your druthers and education, ability, money, etc., were not part of the equation?

I'll get it started. Here are my dream jobs, more or less in order.

1. Professional musician (preferably, a piano player) in a jazz ensemble, rock band, orchestra - really doesn't matter.
2. Working with animals as a dog or horse trainer, animal caretaker at a zoo, behaviorist, etc.
3. State or U.S. park ranger or historian.
4. Fruit and vegetable farmer (as opposed to crops or large animal operations).
5. Writer of books, fiction or nonfiction.
6. Nurseryman (as in plants).
7. Architect.
8. Professional photographer.
9. Filmmaker.
10. Professional chef.

OK, what are your dream jobs?

I would love most of all to be the moderator of a discussion forum in Franklin County on the subject of illegal immigration or religion vs. atheism.

In addition to the great pay, I imagine that the sheer joy of moderating the thoughtful, intelligent discussion would boost my day, calm my spirit, and build in me a new respect and optimism for my community. What could be better?

To fulfill my 'dream job' we must turn back the clock 205 years. I would be a 22 year old, under the employ of M. Lewis and W. Clark. After a 3 year sojourn from St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean and back I would wander off with John Coulter and fur trap and explore for the next 20 years. When the market falls out of the beaver fur industry I would lead homesteaders and settlers from the Mississippi River to their new homes in the west. While not wanting to see the death of the Native American way of life, but seeing the inevitability of the westward expansion of European Americans throughout the continent, I would retire peacefully to a solitary cabin in the wilds where no one could find me without me wanting to be found and die at a ripe old age in the midst of the undeveloped wilderness.
Wink
Back to reality - I would have to say I would like to be a ranger at a national park or an historic author the likes of Dayton Duncan. Historic research and writing would also play into things.

1. Microbiologist (virology, immunology, infectious disease, pathology)

2. Genetics, Molecular Biology, Electron Microscopy (For anyone interested, Wilson College has a better type of EM than Ship--don't hate Ship, don't hate)

3. Biochemistry

4. Chemist (love the practice, hate the paperwork)

5. Photgraphy (This could go along with Electron Microscopy, I really love the power in images of miniscule objects that can create or destroy beings thousands of times their size. Stained images can be breathtaking)

6. Art: Painter (oils,) Sketching, Sculpture

7. Speechwriter, Essayist

8. CGI

9. Herpetologist

10. Aquarium, Viquarium, Terrarium and Habitat design, maintenance and care of the occupants

I realize I picked really broad topics. Blame it on the fact that I have problems making decisions, am fascinated by most areas of the above subjects and I have a great fear of commitment.

I will come up with more, I'm sure, but will try my best to not post them.

I know my dream is to actually write the stories that I have started and stopped many times since about 1990.

Its fun taking so long, so that I have to go back and change my plans over and over again.

The dream would continue, once written, to getting them made into the films they could be. A lot of people would hate, some would love, but at least I would have gotten the dream done.

The sad thing is the first part, since I am the only thing stopping me.
