With all of the hype surrounding the new Knight Rider show, I was wondering if we can come up with some shows that may have been actually better with a relaunch or retooled in a later season.

I think about Battlestar Galactica. I had a lot of doubts about remaking that show. Then a few things happened.

1) I found out that they changed some of the characters from male to female. This I thought was an outrage, an outrage!
2) It was going to be on Sci Fi network. All I could think was terrible Saturday movies that MST3K did not even need to watch to lampoon. More anger in my belly.
3) I watched an episode of the original series. This confused me. It was not a good show at all. (It reminded me of the original Salem's Lot movie. SL terrified me as a child. Then as an adult I overcame the fear and watched it again. It was not scary at all) Ahh the eyes and mind of childhood.
4) I actually watched the new show. IMO one of the best on tv.

I feel conflicted starting this, because I am sick of remakes, yet am compelled. I know there are scores of bad remakes and retools, but what are some of the good ones?

I thought Manfred Mann's Earth Band interpretation of "Blinded by the Light" was way better than Bruce Springsteen's...

"Rolled up like a douche, another floater in the night..."

I don't think I ever heard the employer's version of it. Can you think of any tv that got better?

The real lyrics are actually "Revved up a deuce, another roller in the night."

Listen to the song though... best misheard lyrics ever. He totally says douche.

There are a lot of examples of rehashed TV series'-to-film; most are considerably worse than the originals. Others are at least comparable. But a TV series rehashed into a new TV series? Beyond my comprehension. Despite the old-time-TV-series-turned-feature-film we've experienced ad nauseaum, with almost nothing worth commenting on, I'm not sure I even have a single example, let alone a worthy predecessor in the land of television. Even Battlestar Gallactica is beyond my grasp... I've never seen either version. Which makes me a little short on the "uptake" if you will.

Even the original Star Trek is a separate entity, in my opinion, from TNG (and, as it has been said, in many ways it is superior, but will never be as recognized as the original).

Let's see, let's see. The new Bionic Woman series was all but killed by the writer's strike (no plans for any future episodes; I didn't see any but I assume they sucked like everyone else did).

My presumption is the Knight Rider is being rehashed to capitalize on some of the Transformers frenzy that transpired over the summer. I can only assume that they're a little late for that.

BTW, Transformers 2 has already been green lit and, yes, Michael Bay will once again direct (I hope it's more like Pearl Harbor this time, again!).

Want my opinion? Bring back Freaks and Geeks.

I just thought of a new version of Knight Rider....

I should be about a mime that solves magic mysteries on the back of a time displaced Knight with gruff exterior and a heart of gold.

The mime can be played by Bronson Pinchot and the knight can be played by the Robotic Raymond Burr.

Genius.

But who will Cousin Larry play?

Cousin Larry could portray the Constable named Andy Worhol.

On the new Knight Rider, Kit's voice is Val Kilmer (srsly) and apparently this Michael Knight is the son of the first Michael Knight who will have, at the very least a cameo.
I'm not really buying the whole "someone put a super computer in a Ford thing," even if it is a Shelby Cobra. I would buy the talking car or Hoff being an actor first.

I hate these threads. They make me want to get television again.

Briefly.

I call it television, not tv. Tv is a nickname and nicknames are for friends...and television is no friend of mine...*shudders* - That was paraphrasing from Mr. Show.

I bet if you looked you find plenty of episodes online (in Knight Rider's case--once it aired) fans do all kinds of things to help their shows and networks are starting to catch on and do the same.

Doctor, I love the quote, but I'm too lazy to type the whole word, so I'll just consider tv a frenemy.

I watch way less tv now than I used to, for no other reason than I play too many darn video games.
