do other places eat dumplings like my nanna made? basically balls of dough in broth with ham and green beans?

My mom used to make something like that with potatoes instead of dough.

Thinking about my mom's cooking almost makes me want to move back to Pa. Sad

thinking about my mom's cooking makes me want to stay 700 miles away.

Dad did most of the cooking and if we wanted something other than hamburger helper, burgers or chicken casserole, it was found elsewhere. Laughing

Wasn't all bad, tho'
She makes a broccoli casserole that I love and have only found one better and she used to make the bestest birthday cakes in the whole world, but she stopped making them Sad Every year since I was in my teens she's asked, "What do you want for your birthday?" and I say, "For you to make me a birthday cake." And she say nope. I dunno why she stopped.

She would decorate them beautifully too. And she made naught 3D ones that were always a hit.

I haven't seen this one (although I haven't read all jillion posts)

The plural of "you". 45chel says ya'll...obviously not from here. Very Happy

The correct Franklin County plural of you comes in a number of variants among which are:

you-ins
yhns (sorta like the letter "y" immediately followed by a "n-s" dipthong)
yoons (rhymes with moons but more vowel swallowing involved)
joons (see above)
jhns (see above)
chns (like the word "chins", just don't pronounce the "i")

And please, no homesick Pittsburghers claiming it's a western PA thing...this area was settled long before Pittsburgh was. Take a trip out to the Rocky Spring cemetary. We had a couple generations already in the ground before any appreciable quantity of people made it over the mountain.

There is a dialect atlas (heard about it on NPR) that shows that this area of PA has very similar linguistic etiology to Pgh...
