Has anyone tried the torta Cubana at Tito's? I was in with a buddy and he got it by mistake (we don't speak Spanish and the cook's English wasn't good).

It was kind of amazing - huge roll with breaded meat, fried eggs, grilled sliced hot dogs, chiles, sliced avocado, ham, cheese, and mayo. And maybe guacamole - it was actually kind of hard to tell what all was in there. It was a monster...and surprisingly, pretty good.

I couldn't find this thread when H and I ate at Tito's the first time and I ordered this.

I was, lyke, Oh I like Cuban Sanwiches! I'll get that!

Not a 'traditional' Cuban, but incredibly awesome. (Dare I say it was, awesomesauce?! I Dare!)

That particular occasion, we had agreed to split our meals, but when it came time to hand over half...I followed through, but I wasn't happy about it.

Compared to the Cuban, the tacos sucked....but really, there is no comparison to that monstrosity!

If you don't support restaurants that don't pay taxes then I guess you don't eat out often because there are many around here that are owned by NON ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS....Montezumas, Titos, Oak Forest, 30 West...the Johnnies diner here in McConnellsburg was just bought yet again and they are from new york city, most all chinese places,and I am sure I missed a few...but they wouldnt be able to operate if they were illegal and Im pretty sure if they were caught with illegal employees they wouldnt still be operating the fine I belive is around 5000.00 per head so just a thought before you rant on local businesses. I think its great that the some minorites living here actually want to work and start a buisness...

I think you'll find most of us feel the same way Amy...

I don't know how "exotic" Oak Forest and 30 West are, but I'd much sooner support a local restaurant than a national chain.

It's just too bad that most local restaurants here are bland and boring. But that would be me beating another dead horse.

I gotta try the Cubana...

Both are very good more homestyle than anything, Johnnies in McConnellsburg is crap, the food is never good and my fiance and I ordered steaks a few weeks ago and asked for them well done and they came out burnt and we waited almost 45 minutes, just awful and mashed potatoes were lumpy, dont recomend it for anyone...

Well, McConnellsburg is a little short on dining options... although both The Boar's End and Pearl's are nice little cafes. Probably the only two places that won't give you crappy food and a stomach ache in Fulton County.

I hate to tell you this, but "well done" means burnt in my opinion... try bumping it down to medium-well. At least you might actually taste some steak then...

(Sorry, I'm a bit of a steak elitist and I'll never understand why anyone would order a steak well done).

Well Coppy sorry to say but Paiges Pearle is closing, I have worked for her since the beginning i transfered over from saigee bs, but we just didn't have enough community support, and space was limited people would rather go to sheetz and mcdonalds instead of waiting a few extra minutes for good food, we never had complaints about our food, just space which is understandable, but I agree with you on the Boars End awesome chicken!!!!

Now that's a sad story; one that is all too common in this area. Lack of community support. Paige's food is excellent, but it's very "un-Fulton County." Panini's and wraps; I guess people want their microwaved Sheetz and fried McDonalds. Such a shame.

As for "still mooing," I can understand being squeamish over a bloody steak, but without at least some pink you're not really tasting anything. I can understand personal preference, but you should never have to worry about food borne illness when it comes to steak; you're far more likely to get sick from tainted produce or chicken. It's sort of like how you're safer in a plane than a car; even so, people are more afraid to fly. Same goes for red meat.

I had a friend who owned a restaurant; he went on and on about how ordering a steak well done not only effectively ruins the steak, but also screws up the kitchen since it takes so long to cook. If a patron orders a steak well, then they probably don't want any pink, so the cook would sooner burn it to a crisp, rather than risk the customer freaking out over a little pink.

Anyway, just trying to give a little a perspective on the red meat thing. I'd suggest bumping down to medium-well and then maybe even working your way down to medium... you won't believe how good a steak can taste! Razz

I don't really understand where else there is to locate in McConnellsburg... there's very little there and it's probably easier to renovate a residential property than to demolish and rebuild, or renovate one of the many abandoned, run-down buildings.

7-P's in Chambersburg is very similar to Paige's and does great lunch business; and I would consider their location to be out of the way in a more residential part of town.

No, it's the customers; I still believe there's simply a preference for cheap microwaved food over a decent meal.
