I'm not one to enjoy British humor either; for fear of being tarred and feathered, I've never enjoyed Monty Python (or the endless barrage of poor, British-accented re-enactments I've received from people over the years) or your typical BBC comedy show.

i'm a huge bbc fan and monty is prob one of my all time favs. my friends and i enjoy dialog reinactment. 'dead parrot' can go for a while....lolz....and the holy grain can last hours for endless entertainment. Laughing

Python is not for everyone. I think everyone one should at least check it out. (The best way is NOT around Python fans.)

Too True.

I consider myself a fan, not as hardcore as some though and I cannot watch Python around them.

Not a G Girls fan, but Life of Brian is slated to have some sort of new special edition released soon.

Hmmm, maybe we can change up essential movies, by genre perhaps, but that could get limiting....

Like Science Fiction: I don't think there is a better space Opera than Star Wars Episode IV. Though (IMO) Episode V is a better movie. 2001 is a better straight up science fiction movie in the classical sense. Starship Troopers is an incredible sci-fi propaganda video from the future.

On second thought bad idea.

Some essential comedies:

Blues Brothers
Caddyshack
Slap Shot
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
New Jack City

Groundhog Day is I dare say...timeless...*ducks.

Any opinions on the the "Essential Bill Murray" movie?

It very well may be Groundhog Day. Though I love Rushmore and (*ducks again) the always polarizing Lost in Translation.

(Side Note: Sophie Copola helped to ruin Godfather 3)

I'll admit it. I liked Lost in Translation.

I always enjoy The Longest Day, too. Lots of people yelling in German. A very young Sean Connery storming the beaches of Normandy. Good, accurate history.

Very long, and the constant artillery barrages get old after a while, but a fun watch...

One of my top five horror movies:

The Re-Animator

The not-so-dead-anymore cat always kills me...
