Please stop turning left onto Norland Ave from Walker Road. Turn left onto Gateway Ave, the light before it. There is no turning lane and I'm sick and tired of being held up there constantly.
It's nice to see them tearing down those abandoned homes though across from the intersection; anyone know if there are plans to create a turning lane? |

COPPY!!!
You mean people still haven't caught on to left at Gateway?
I want to know who got to do the architectural salvage in those old homes? I considered a little B&E but decided it would probably be cheaper just to keep looking for an architectural salvage yard. (I'm not as young as I used to be) _________________ I demand euphoria! |

Hey chel
Yeah, I saw them tearing down those eyesores this week. Thank goodness. The lawns are overgrown and, correct me if I'm wrong, but the one driveway literally has a "DO NOT ENTER" sign stuck right in the middle of it. OK, I won't enter... if you tear it down.
Seems like a good time to make that turning lane, because while a lot of people are starting to turn left onto Gateway, there are enough dolts out there who have to sit there waiting to turn left in their huge SUV's when all I want to do is go straight.
That green light lasts a good 12 seconds; I'm getting pretty tired of it. |

Coppy,
You wouldn't be able to get past me at that intersection or any others without left turning lanes. I stay off to the right of the lane so that their isn't any space to get through. I'm not doing it to be rude, I just don't want to have to worry about someone trying to squeeze past my car and possibly hitting it. If you don't like waiting for people to turn left there, perhaps you could take the interstate.......no waiting. |

I shouldn't have to go out of my way to the Interstate because you turn left there. OK, so move over the right so I can't pass you; I have a small car though and I might be able to make it by you.
That intersection is designed based on the assumption that people going to Norland will turn left at Gateway Ave. If you don't do that, then what else can I do other than call you a dolt and complain about it here?

Maybe those people you are waiting on to turn left are coming from the probation office and going to Giant or one of the stores in the new plaza. Why should they have to turn left out of that parking lot and go out of THEIR way clear up to Gateway and turn right just to get to the plaza?
I would think it would be quicker for you to go the extra 1000 feet to interstate 81N off of route 30 instead of turning onto Walker Road. Then you could have a clear run to the next exit. |

if they didn't intend people to turn left from walker onto norland, why did they put an entire lane on norhland for this, not even a merge lane, if you make that turn |

There's no left turn lane because the 'duh-huh, local-yocals' have no idea what the word plan is. Just look at the whole development. A nice four to five lane road fed by two lanes from all three directions. Yea, don't even think about extending Fifth north to Woodstock at four lanes wide. That might be construed to be progressive.
Hagerstown planning is light years ahead of Franklin Cty when it come to a vision of the future. No comparison. No wonder thet refer to C'brg as the "Hicks up north".
Just can't wait for the Chrismas traffic. Just wait. Your left turn lane at Gateway will be backed up to Ruby Tuesdays. Another poorly planned, "mini-resturant". I think all these new resturants are like doll house minatures.
What's up with the right turn off Walker Rd into the parking lot at PetSmart. Thousands of $$$$ spent to excavate and pave; the barrels were gone for a few day and now they're back. Probably too steep for some of these weak drivers to negotiate.
I just love all the roadway lane markers on westbound Norland at Fifth. Seems like Wagner and his crew change their minds daily. |

They do not; I drive up Walker Road from Route 30 with the intention to go straight at the Norland light. The cars I am talking about are the ones that I follow, past the Gateway Ave light and then put on their blinkers at Norland. It's asinine and it holds all of us up. Yeah, certain times of day it's no problem; because there's no cars coming in the other direction. But if its busy, and you drive right past Gateway Ave in front of me only to turn left at Norland, then I think I have a right to be annoyed.
In the rare instance if you're coming from the probation office; basically the only place where this might make sense, then go ahead and turn left on Norland.

They did have this intention, it is what the representative in charge of project said right here in the PO when questioned about the lack of a left turning lane. He specifically said that the intention was for people to turn left at Gateway. Now; I just need to figure out who the joke is on... the contractors for actually believing that people would do this, or the people themselves for refusing to use any common sense.
No, the joke is on me; I'm the one who has to wait.
Also, turning left onto Walker Road from the I-81 Northbound offramp can also be a nightmare; so getting onto the highway is out of the question. Besides, my commute is convenienced by me being able to take Walker Road rather than 81. The only inconvenient thing is the drivers.
Am I seriously talking out my butt here, or what? |

You are absolutely right. It is very annoying. I'm just messing with you a little. I think it was poor planning to not have a turning lane there and to assume people would turn onto Gateway. If all road planning was done on assumptions, like this one appears to have been, then we technically wouldn't even have to put red lights in........we could just assume that everyone would just work it out amongst themselves. |

I really enjoy how the Norland was designed so that in the AM rush hour and PM rush hour that sun is directly in your eyes as you drive.
This just makes the ride to and from work so much more exciting! I can't see you, you can't see me....it's so much fun! |

Catwoman, use some common sense. It's faster and easier for you to turn at Gateway Ave. If you get stuck trying to make a left turn onto Norland from Walker, you're going to wait just like the rest of us. No one ever said it's illegal to turn left there; it's just stupid.
So seriously, why do you refuse to turn at Gateway? It's truly shorter and easier to do than fight through a non-existent left-turn lane.
Or are you just being spiteful at this point? |

Yeah, you should only be allowed to drive north from now on. Maybe we can let people drive in reverse towards the south |
