Fried chicken served on waffles is very much a southern thing, served with maple syrup.

I don't remember seeing any chicken and waffle joints until the mid-90's...and after that description, I'm glad I never ventured into one. I think I'd eat chitlin's first...matter of fact I have eaten chitlin's.

Long ago I knew someone who mixed ranch & sugar (and later experiemented with other minor ingredients) in a bowl and ate it. She was southern, but that doesn't mean her 'habits' are a southern thing. But if this is how we're represented...no wonder no one likes us Crying or Very sad

the combination sounds horrid but it's actually pretty tasty. I refuse to get it though, solely on principal because..chicken? and Waffles? Much like I refuse to accept what is referred to in PA as "Pot Pie" because it is NOT pie. While it is good, it is just soup with oversized noodles. No crust=no pie.

And no POT either! (Sorry, brief flashback to the 60's)

According to Wikipedia (not the best site, but other sites confirm the info):

In the Pennsylvania Dutch region, there is a dish called "bott boi" by German-speaking natives and is mispronounced "pot pie" by English speakers in the area. This dish is sometimes referred to as "slippery noodle pot pie" to distinguish it from the true pie form of pot pie.

On a side note, the Pennsylvania Dutch aren't even Dutch. That was a mispronunciation of Deutsch (German).

The new Molly's is wonderful and should give Main Street a run for its money. Shame neither of those non-chains want to offer dinner. Some locals with taste frequent 7 peas too. Wink

Where is Molly's?

I've always wanted to try the place across from Emily's, but I won't patronize a place that isn't open weekends at this point. We don't need local businesses pushing people out of town on the weekends.

Precisely what's been happening with me! Last month, we ate at the Aangan Indian (Harrisburg), last weekend at Cedars Lebanese (Camp Hill) and today... we just returned from a delightful Indian meal at Javids (Carlisle)... my new favorite! Delicious spices like whole Cardamon pods, Garam Masala, Fennel, Ginger etc. Nam breads with Tamarind dip, Buryani's etc.

To my disappointment, Chambersburg does not fill the bill for my ethnic dining preferences.
Sad

Where's a good place to get some good cheesecake around these parts? Wish there was a Cheesecake Factory around here. Question Question Question

Oh, for a Cheesecake Factory...it's more than cheesecake for those who are unaware.

I want a Dessert Place too...and a place that sells champagne truffles

sigh

Although you cannot get cheesecake anywhere in Chambersburg as far as I know (aside from maybe TGI Fridays or the sort), I'm not sure what people's obsession is with The Cheesecake Factory either. It is an upscale chain though and you won't find one outside metropolitan or ritzy areas. Same with places like PF Chang's, or Ruth's Chris.

Whining, I had no idea that an Indian restaurant had opened in Carlisle; where is it? (actually, nevermind; I googled it and it's on Hanover street. I guess it opened this summer to little fanfare. I will be going there very soon!)

What's sad is that Carlisle is about the same size as Chambersburg, yet their dining choices are FAR superior. Lots of great local restaurants and bars. My favorites include Amy's Thai (as discussed), Salamandra (gourmet pizza), and Piatto (very upscale Italian; the perfect place for a quite evening meal) and of course Market Cross, best beer selection in the area (unless you feel like traveling out to Hanover for KClinger's awesome beer selection).

They have a seven layer drink there, or at least they used to...I'm not sure what was in it, it barely tasted like alcohol and I'm pretty sure I lost a week.

The food is good, the desserts are superior to anything at any local restaurant, but I really miss that drink!

Coppy,

Not sure if you know it or not but there is a Market Cross Pub in Shippensburg. Also, I just went to Knutes in Ship this weekend and had a very good meal. I would surely go back again to try more of their food. I had crabcakes and my husband had the delmonico and both meals were very good. Maybe a little pricey for some but no more than if you have eaten at the Cottage or places comparable to that.

I've been to Market Cross Pub in Shippensburg many times. Compared to its superior, Carlisle cousin, I don't care for it one bit. It's a sardine can in there, and they refuse to open up the dining area for people who just want drinks after 9 (the old Silver Fox/Nikki's that was there before Market Cross used to do this). The beer selection is great, and they usually have a cask-conditioned ale on tap, but going there just for beers is a waste of time. It's loud, small, cramped, smoky and mostly uncomfortable. No thanks, I'd much sooner just drive the extra 15 minutes to the Carlisle one which has plenty of room and a better beer selection.

I haven't had the best experiences at Knute's. It's an ok lunch/bar food place, but I'm not sure I'd go there for dinner. Maybe I'm missing out.

Since discussion is all but dead, I'd like to post a little project I've been working on.

It's a work in progress. Enjoy.

Great idea! Pizza is certainly a mainstay around here and probably better healthwise than a lot of other fast, party or fun foods.
Of course, like everything else, every individual has his/her own taste. The pizza factory on South Main Street and Rosalie's Fabulous Grill get my vote. How about you other pizza lovers out there?
BTW, is this strictly a borough competition? Razz
