Cafe Datalia is where the Baker's Loaf was. Right next to Titos. Bistro 71 is just North of that on North Main St.. Datalia is in the final stages of remodeling and what an extensive job they have done. I personally can't wait. Have talked to the owner on numerous occasions and it sounds like it will be a great place to eat. The Bistro is in the process of design. They are planning some unique fare and will have a soft liquior license. Both places sound like a great addition to the inner community.
I have been to both W.B. and Pittston. Each community is unique and different and we all have many challanges to overcome. I also understand what you mean about the way us newbies are perceived. I've never let that interfere with the way that I treat people. Eventually people will warm up to you if you just be yourself and don't their attitudes affect yours. I definitely know this from being a newbie and having a new kind of retail store in town. I just take joy in the new folks that I meet and the new friendships that I establish. Smile

Last note; small town feel, i.e. "knowing your neighbors." I'm not from Chambersburg, so most people here treat me like an outsider. Right from the get go. Many are friendly, but quite frankly, this truly is a very grumpy region where a lot of people just want to be left alone... especially if they don't know you from their childhood.

Grumpy People

I'm certainly not a scholar on the subject (or, for that matter, any other subject) but it seems as though the grumpiness of locals (as tracked through Topix posts) is cyclical.

Does anyone make Midol laced beer?

I can say that it took about 3 years of living in this community; like you said, being friendly, cordial, talking to folks, participating in community events, etc. for me to really break through that wall and find a niche.

It doesn't help that I don't belong to a local church, which I perceive as the small-town equivalent of the high school clique... only your church-of-choice basically dictates who you "hang out with" and everyone isn't cool enough.

Perhaps a bit cynical on my part, but I've seen it myself nonetheless.

I like it here; I probably won't raise a family here... I've seen enough places to know that my final settle-down spot is elsewhere, but I like it enough for now. Enough at least to push for positive change.

Speaking of which, I suppose it's odd enough that I'm a local 20-something that isn't married-with-children. The hardest part was probably finding local people my age that don't already have 1.5 kids.

Looking forward to the new cafe's.
