And another thing...I went back to check on the posts this evening and the whole thing is gone, vanished, eliminated.

Did poor Mr. Jennings' threat of slander (still laughing over that one!) cause the head honchos or the powers that be to take down that post? I wanted to find out what people would respond to my post. Now that it's gone, I can't even cut and paste it! Shame, shame.

The word "terrorist" should not have been used, I agree. But what he (Jennings) did will cause a ripple effect throughout the rest of the Franklin County Volunteer Fire Departments.

Awww. I'm sorry Queen. Just post it here and I'll respond.

It is unfortunate that Jennings behavior will effect the future instead of just being tossed off as a fluke.

Of course, I'm still of the mind that if no one was 'home' they should've locked up...I mean all of that equipment...

Not saying that they brought it on themselves!!!!

If Jennings was still a probie, he might have had the combination to unlock the doors at the fire house...(if they use that type of system) or he could have had a key. Some firehouses give the keys to probationaries as well as regulars.

The "community" and grants bought that equipment. Co. 9 is small and has such a large job to do. Some twerp goes in a ruins the good work and name of some wonderful people.

Unfortunately, they (Jennings-like kids) are everywhere. This one just happened to show up at a fire department. Now his shenanigans will in turn cost that department $100 for every new member. It costs about $100 to do a background check. If other departments follow suit, it will cost them, as well.

His toll: $4,100 for damages; $100 per new member, from now on; the lesson on behaviour, priceless.

I consider Weddle a terrorist.

I am terrified that people like that exist.

Why can't the volunteers pay for their background check? Daycare providers, Private Investigators etc. all pay for their own B.Cs.
The whole point of volunteering is because you want to help, right? So why would they want the Fire Dept. to use it's own funds?

The department could probably also set up a reference system where current members can vouch for individuals. In a small town setting, that should not be too unrealistic.

That could never work, unfortunately. Crying or Very sad

In these already exsisting volunteer FD are some unworthy beings. They just haven't reared their ugly heads, yet. Almost all VFDs will have a pyromaniac, the thrill of the fire. They think that he/she will never get caught. They do! Nearly all junior members cause trouble in one way or another. Once they become regular members they tend to settle down.

The problem with vouching is that if someone wants to become part of the FD and is friends with another member, they could use that friendship. Sort of an extorsion or blackmail, if you will.

Volly members already pay a membership fee to join the FD, some departments then have a yearly dues system, as well. The fire departments are so low on members as it is now. They can charge members an additional $100 to join. I wouldn't have been able to pay for it when I joined my department with the rest of my family (a total of 4).

I'm thinking about joining the fire police so I can drive around with blue lights on my pickup, wear 4 or 5 pagers/cell phones clipped to my belt and then swing my arms randomly when I have to direct traffic.

Don't you dare say anything about the fire police! Some of my best husbands (OK the only one I have) are fire police! Certain Fire department know how to do it better than others.

Now, Queen,

I'm sure that even your rotten husband who couldn't get you a cheap ol' puppy would admit that not all fire cops are heros...or even competent. That would be like me saying that all servicemembers are competent...I mean, have you ever tried to have a conversation with a Marine?! Laughing It's amazing most of them made it to enlistment age!
Don't even get me started on 11 Bang Bangs! (Umm, what was your husband again?) Smile

Besides, we can't possibly take Fire Police seriously until they have their own theme song!

What do F.P. do, anyway? Do they arrest people?

I feel like this post is half serious, half sarcasm.

If you were married to someone in the fire police, can you please confirm for me that they are all developmentally challenged in some way? Please? Because, from my observations, that's putting it lightly...

Also, please take the preceding post as half sarcasm (the other half is free for you to decide) Razz

Sometimes I wish I was Franklin County's Only Stand-Up comic... I would have this KILLER volunteer fire dept/fire police theme. Believe me, typing it wouldn't do it justice, I need that hick-accent, you know the one, "Golly, gee, here there's some-a cars a-comin' and I uh, there are fir' and well yous' got'ta go dee udder way...."
