I have driven pass this place many times and always wondered what it is like? Is it "another fast food joint or a nice sit down place. And how is the food and service? |

I have not been in about a year. The service was average for a fast food joint and the people behind the counter typical in age, but slightly more personable than your average F.F group. You stand in line to order and get your food then sit in booths. The decor gave me a 70's vibe, but I have a crappy memory and rely on fragments.
The shakes were better than most, the food was good and did not have that assembly line, processed feel. It was typical burger joint fare, but possessed a certain charm.
The sticker: Prices are quite similar, maybe a little more than a Mickey D's but the servings were small. Meaning they were normal sized for back in the day, but in the Age of Supersize it looked...inadequate. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but can be disappointing if you aren't prepared.
In summary, I wouldn't call it another fast food joint or a nice sit down place, but it had a friendly feel that fast food places wish they could bottle! _________________ If, lately, it seems as though I've been unreasonable, it is only because I have lost all reason. |

I don't think I have ever eaten there, although it seems to be a lot like "The Treat" in Shippensburg. Someone once told me they have good cheesesteaks but I never bothered trying to find out. Man, I wish you could get a good cheesesteak around here. Mechanicsburg had three, great, authentic Philly Cheesesteak places, and now I can't even find a bagel. |

I'm pretty sure it's a "sister" restaurant to The Treat...I mean..their signs are even the same colors.
I've never been but I can assume that if you're down for a decent Texas cheesburger you could go there...at least you can at The Treat. |

| Thanks to all of the feedback. Maybe it will be worth a try. I hate fast food places but it sounds like this is like Dodies. I've never ate at the treat either. Just looking for something different around here. |

The treat is not fast food, food is prepared as you order it. They don't have waitresses, you order your food, go find your seat, they call your number when ready. It isn't a bad place to eat, they have REALLY good ice cream! I don't like ice cream, but they have flavor gels they put in. Stop in one day on your way past and check it out. |

The treat is "fast food" regardless of whether or not it's made to order. Wendy's supposedly makes your burger when you order it, but that doesn't make them anything other than a fast food place.
If you order at a counter and your food isn't served on real plates, it's fast food although I even consider Pizza Hut borderline fast food, so there's exceptions.
The Treat is ok, it is more of an ice cream place but they have pretty good burgers. I don't know about flavor gels, but I'm also not driving all the way up to Shippensburg just for fast food; especially if Kenny's is pretty much the same thing.
Still looking for a good cheesesteak. Why do we have all the bad parts of PA cuisine around here, and none of the good? |

I agree Caretti's is one of the better Pizza and sandwich joints in the area. Bennys on LWE is my current favorite. But like alot of food, the best to whom? At one time Dillys made a good pie. I think they have since gone the frozen, soda-cracker-like-crust route, I believe. Haven't had one in quite sometime.
Some like alot of sauce, some not. Some enjoy their sauces spicy, some sweet, some prefer it to be like ketchup. The Cburg delight.....
Fresh toppings or frozen? Plastic cheese or fresh mozz, parma and provo combo? Canned 'roons, dried 'roons or fresh?
Fresh daily hand-tossed dough or the current trend in frozen, cardboard like crust. If there are no air/yeast bubbles in the crust, you can have it.
In Franklin Cty, Pizza Hut, Domino, Little Sleazer, are boss to many. They enjoy cardboard crust, ketchup, plastic cheese, ground up, red looking sausage. In a pinch they may curb a hunger pang if consumed within 15 minutes of done. Do not attempt seconds after they have cooled. Might as well eat the corrugated carton. Feed the dog or better yet, use the left overs as frizbies for the dog. Nahhhh...my dog deserves better...trash it!

actually, kenny's "sister" restaurant is "dodie's" (once known as Hoover's)...both were started/run for years by Kenny Hoover.
same ice cream, good dinners....i was reading about the small portions, but really, does one have to eat gluttonously? lol...their kennyburger is awesome and def. try their soft serve.
hoovers--try the chicken dinner. very good and good portions, for those who want more than average.
(but yes, it's similar to the treat, food wise) |

OMG!!! Someone else knew that fact! I'm so shocked. I can't believe I wasn't the only one with that piece of Franklin County trivia!
I worked for Hoover's before they sold out to the 'new' owner who named it Dodies. Do you remember those wonderfully tacky green barstools? The kitchen was ancient and the ice cream homemade and delicious. Wow - takes me back!
