ok!

as per chel's request i'm starting a sort of "urbandictionary" style thread for WoW terms....

in WoW we like abbreviations. one of the most popular one is "bg"...this stands for Battlegrounds...there are several battlegrounds on can join in the game....they work by lvls:

lvl 10-19
lvl 20-29
lvl 30-39
lvl 40-49
lvl 50-59
lvl 60-69
and lvl 70

and side note: lvl is another popular abbreviation for level. haha.

ok.

so here's the bg breakdown...there is:

WSG....aka Warsong Gulch....basically capture the flag

AB....aka Arathi Basin...this is a defense based game where you have to control nodes and resources to win

AV...aka Alterac Valley...this one you can enter at 51....51 and under no can do. it's hard to explain. Torgo and i can make a tread on that alone....his from the ally POV, mine from the horde pov...resources are involved as well and towers/bunkers/graveyards must be controlled or you lose resources. as well there are pve objectives in them and "bosses" to kill...

EotS...aka Eye of the Storm...a combo conceptually between AB/WSG...node controlling and capture the flag. lvl requirements for this is 61-69 and 70....so if you're lower than that...sorry! you'll have to wait!

as well there are arenas. the bgs and arenas are PVP oriented (player versus player...ie, horde kill ally and vice versa)...PVE (player versus environment) is quest oriented.

WoW has PVP servers, PVE servers and RPPVP (Role Playing Player Versus Player)....upon starting your WoW adventure, your first step would be to decide which you think you'd like best.

if you're like the rest of us addicts, you'll have alts everywhere to sample them all.

if you think you'd like to quest the most, go w/PVE...if the idea of attacking another player while you're questing sounds fun, go w/PVP.

Next topic will be: race and classes.....but i'm tired and need to go to bed. torgo, laughing, everyone...feel free to pipe in hehe.... Laughing Laughing

larp'ers --- um dunno this one...i'll ask around....

spirit res ----spirit resing is another term for resurrection of your dead body....itis what happens if you die and you either a) don't feel like running back to your body or b) you've been bad (like i usually am) and made so many pvp'rs mad at you they're camping your body so you have no choice but to res at the GY spirit guide (hence the spirit res)...if you res at the spirit guide you will take a 10 minute penalty that consists of a 25% decrease in your stats/gear. basically if you try to kill something you're dead meat. so, if i take spirit res, it's usually cuz of b, but if i'm questing and i spirit res, i do it when i've died far away from the turn in and i'm actually closer at the gy to my quest turn in than my body. (lazy)

hearth ---- each player is given a hearthstone (it's in your bag on startup)...the hearth stone has to be 'set' with an innkeeper of your choice (and you can change this as much as you want) and you can "hearth" home...so if i'm out in the Crossroads and my hearth is set to Orgimmar, when i click on it, i'll return to orgimmar. it's a handy dandy that one!

accept res ---- similar to spirit res, but this one's resurrecting at your corpse. in the game, when you die, you start your 'death walk' back to your corpse from the graveyard (aka GY)...in the game there's a minimap at the top right and it points and arrow in the direction of your corpse (you can also flip to your map using the 'm' key if you haven't changed your key bindings)....so you start at gy dead and run run run run run to your corpse. when you get near to your corpse you'll have a button pop up that says: accept resurrection? yes if you're in the clear....or if there's a baddie by you...try to reposition yourself before you res so you don't die again. not fun..

this is a fun video about classes:

as per a question chel wrote in other wow thread:

lowbie: a low lvl'd character*

(*your characters can be referenced to as: toons or alts, depending on your preference)

main: your "main" character

(for example, my main is a 70 UD priest)

which brings us to: race abbreviations

UD = undead
BE = bloodelf
NE = night elf

orcs are orcs. you'll hear tauren referred to as cows. the rest are pretty much as they are: troll, human, gnome, dwarf, etc.

i'll do a posting soon on races. then one on classes. haha....just a little appetizer. speaking of appetizers..lunch time! Very Happy

Why does everyone like to kill priests?

usually the battle cry heard at the beginning of battlegrounds or arenas is: kill the healer (or healers)...since they are the ones 'fixing' everyone. several classes can heal: priests, druids, shammys, pallys....however....of all of them, priests are the most "Squishy" (as it is referred to)...squishy is equavalent of being a 'clothie' (one who's gear is made of cloth....depending on your class your gear can be cloth, leather, mail, plate)...of these healing classes, priests typically have the quickest deaths because we're all cloth (pallys are plate/mail, shammys/druids leather...all of those are 'better' for health points/armor than cloth, but what can you do)

so, as a priest you will die. alot. but you res, get back in there, heal who can can, die and repeat.

/shakes fist at plate wearing paladins....

all part of the fun. hehe

oh, innocent are we?

HAR!

you....you....PALADINS.

in a bg last night, i was running around healing like a madman(girl?) and renew, flash heal, prayer of mending, binding heal, renew, shield....heals going like CRAZY.....and then....in the final bg stats my friend Q whomped my measly 35k with his 115k heals (he's a druid) and then lo-and-behold the crazy 135k from a pally.

why does bliz even have a priest class. i mean, i KNOW (as do my guildies) they hate casters (see next arenas s4 gear)...my lvl 49 pally does better heals in wsg and ab than bigVal ever does. oh, and my 59 druid's heals are SICK.

why WHY WHY blizz do you hate us priests so??

(grumbles at huntards)

expansion is the third thing to buy...so you'll need world of warcraft, the burning crusade (expansion #1) and LichKing (expansion#2)....and those function as one unit, so the $15/mo is all you'd need Smile if you're just getting started, i'd just get WoW and BC....get an alt to 55 then get WotLK (wrath of the lich king expansion)

translations will be after the quote.....

Torgo wrote:

one of the most notorious rogue "moves" or skills is "sap" and "back stab"....those 2 in combo can stun lock (make you unable to move at all) for a VERY long time. as a "clothie" (a cloth wearer, such as priest, mage, lock) we do not like this move. but, torgo's pally wears plate, so he's a bit better off...he has more health to be drained by mr. rogue. whereas a squishy like me as a priest is basically screwed.

succy = succubus ... one of the warlock's minions....i'll post photos tomorrow. notoriously drooled over by hormonal pre-teen boys becuase they whip themselves (literally) and make suggestive moans. o.O you get this at lvl 20 if i recall.

voidwalker .... another one of the warlock's minions...you get this guy at lvl 10.

Death Knight = new hero class that will be introduced in WotLK expansion...you can roll one if you have a character to lvl 55...if you do not, then you won't be able to create one until you have someone to lvl 55...this is a "hero" class...meaning you'll be starting at a higher lvl (i've heard it starts at lvl 55...it's really all heresay at this point in time)....here's more info on this guy: http://www.wowwiki.com/Lich_King

cookieclaygirl wrote:

felpup = another lock minion gotten in 30s...the felpup's main perk is that it has a buff (a buff is a spell that is bequeathed to you for a period of time...some buffs last 10 min, some last 30, etc. they boost stamina, spirit, etc....which help in your stats for your character) called "paranoia" and this helps those within a radius of the lock and his felpup "see" the invisible better (rogues, druids, or those damn shadowmelded NE...sigh)....the "invisibles" i'm referring to are also known as "stealthers" in the game. as well, these pups "eat" other characters buffs...so if you had 3 buffs entering the battle, my felpup will basically dispel them from you and your armor will go back to pre-buffed lvls.

VW = voidwalker

locks have 3 talents they can be spec'd as: afflication (aka aff) (handiest for felpup...this is best for DoTs...aka Damage over Time)...demonology (aka demo) (which is how you get the felguard in 50s)....destruction (aka destro)....which i haven't dabbled with yet. each class has 3 talent trees to choose from. when i talk about classes i'll cover this as well. the race/class talk will take me a while to type up so i've been doing this in word over the week and will just copy and paste it when i'm done LOL

OP = over powered

we were just talking about the DK class tonight in the guild...and how for a long time we're gonna see tons of DKs running around lvling. should be a visual experience. to say the least...hence, during instances, you'll see like 5 death knights and 1-2 healers. hehe. someone's gotta keep them up and running.

more on classes/races soon. i promise!

hope this helped some chel....i'll post the first bit of race/class tomorrow if i get a chance ... Smile
