| I was just wondering if anyone had, had any problems with the animal shelter like I have had, I called last week because I have two small kittens that are extremely cute and need good homes, I already have a 5 month old siberian husky and two cats inside, so I cant' keep them...anyway I called to tell them I would bring them and the proceeded to tell me they would charge me for bringing them and if they need to be put down,(one has a serious respitory infection) now if I am not mistaken Its a HUMANE society, and thats what they are here for, but If I were to put them down and someone found out I would be charged for animal cruelty, now I know there is a lot of animals that need help, but i think they could be a little nicer when concerned people call!!! |

| I think that is probably why some people just take the animals out and put them in the cages for cats or the run areas for dogs while no one is there. They don't want to pay the fee. I feel that if the dogs or cats are strays or you found them and they have tags, you should not be charged. If they are yours, you should have to pay a fee for their services. If you don't want to pay the service fee then you should put them in the paper under absolutely free. It is not a free service that they provide and anyone not wanting a pet any longer should be made to pay a fee to help pay for the food and shelter that the animal is provided during its stay at the shelter. Just my opinion. I am not in any way affiliated with the shelter. |

| I can't imagine having to pay to drop off a found animal. Ever live on a farm, people just drop off cats left and right. Its not fair to the farm owners to pay for their maintenance. |

Heck, I don't even live on a farm, but found 4 beautiful little kittens on my property yesterday.
Darn, like I need MORE kittens! At least they're old enough to eat on their own. _________________ Personal Responsibility. Get It. Use It. |

I don't believe that every area has to pay a fee to bring in an animal.
From what I understand, certain areas have higher cases of abandonment, so the shelter asked the city councils to contribute towards the cost. The councils refused, so the shelter charges the residents.
I, honestly, understand the predicament of the shelter...I don't necessarily agree with penalizing the residents that find strays, but I sympathize with CVAS's predicament.
How much is the fee? _________________ Nevermind. |

Jelsey, I remember you said you had a big furry 'poopie' (that would be a puppy to those who don't speak Chel.)
Were you 'left' with responsibility and initially in search for a home for the baby?
I ask because I remember a few years back running into someone who had a Newfoundland/St. Bernard cross that they had taken over care of. At the time, she was considering finding a home for him(?) and I was willing to offer my home...unfortunately, Rat-dog was not. (she is such teh brat!!)
Anyway, I was just wondering. _________________ Nevermind. |

| Well they weren't my kittens, I brought them home because the place where I worked has an apartment on top of it and the kids that lived there killed two of them, so I wanted to make sure they werent hurt, and thought maybe they could go to good homes, I did thank God find them a home on a farm where they are well taken care and are considered part of the family....I do understand where the shelter comes from I just thought they could have been more polite about it. |

Don't animals cost money to take care of? And a lot of strays have health problems; as far as I know, the animal shelter does what it can to prevent euthanizing most animals brought it, but that may mean costly bills.
I don't know the whole story obviously, but it's no all volunteer based and if you think it should be, then maybe you should volunteer to clean up cat a dog crap and give some unpleasant animals their daily food and medication.
I'm just saying, it's not magic. We're overrun with dogs and cats because people don't know how to get their animals taken care of (that's the Bob Barker in me now).
Anyway, I just don't think anyone should be criticizing the animal shelter, unless you want to front the costs of taking in and caring for stray animals yourself. |

Coppy I don't think AmyH's post was to criticize the Shelter. In the post before yours it's state's the understanding of where the shelter is coming from, she just thought they would be a little more polite about it.
AmyH next time call the animal Control Officer, especially if you know someone who has killed an animal.
Coppy remember with the animal shelter you have people who believe in what it stands for and the rest don't care. Make friends with the people who care about animals. |

I adopted my Newf/St.Bernard when she was 8 weeks old, that was about 8 years ago. Strange combo, and for TWO of them to be in this same area I have to wonder if the "breeders" are still breeding these beasts!
By the way, those "4 beautiful kittens" are now FIVE beautiful kittens AND THEIR MOTHER!!!!!
Guess we'll have to feed the whole bunch. _________________ Personal Responsibility. Get It. Use It. |

Well, I guess I didn't meet you then.
He was a big, beautiful, friendly boy!
It was in 2004, maybe 2005 and he was maybe only two or so.
I thought the cross was unusual also, but I guess it's more common than we both thought!
Have fun with those kittens! (At least you can get them to poop in a box!) _________________ Nevermind. |

| Like I said before NOT critizing the shelter, funny you said something about volunteering I actually do volunteer twice a month at a no kill shelter by taking pets to area functions to try and get them adopted!!!And like I said one needed put down cuz I couldn't afford vet care, so I thought the HUMANE way was to call!!!But thanks for your concern!!!!And an update both are doing extremly well and actually think they are cows! |

It's okay, Amy, we gotcha.
Coppy was just throwing in his cents.
We all like to come at stuff from different angles and sometimes when some of us get those rusty little wheels in our heads, going we can't stop them until we let it all out!
It is not a reflection on anyone's opinion of you, I promise...we're just weird.
