Our power went out today (flickered, really) and it got me to thinking. Why would a windstorm cause flickering?
I'm guessing (with input from smartypants H.) that a branch hit a transformer, which would've knocked power out elsewhere and maybe that caused a surge or a drain untila failswitch was triggered...
Is anyone else better at making up words or scenarios than I am?
Oh and how far is Fayetteville (always reminds me of Fayettnam--what Ft. Bragg soldiers call the surrounding area of strip joints, tattoo parlors, bars and 'massage' parlors) from C-burg? 'Cause the have been without power for a few hours and Red Cross is currently loading trucks to set up a shelter there. (pass the word to people who need to know) _________________ Nevermind. |

I live in the Fayetteville area, 'Chel. By the road signs, I think Fayetteville is 7 or 8 miles east of Chambersburg. Do you know where Mama's is, or the big flea market/antiques mall on Rt. 30. That area is considered Fayetteville. Of course, the actual town is on a road (Main Street) parallel to and just north of Rt. 30 _________________ The sun, the moon and the stars would have disappeared long ago... had they happened to be within the reach of predatory human hands. ~Havelock Ellis, The Dance of Life, 1923 |

So totally unrelated to all of that, but about today's weather...
If anyone wants to say a prayer or wish us luck or whatever...
Our area is in some bad shape down here right now. There are a LOT of brush fires, many out of control. Property owners were having to fight them alone earlier because fire response was stretched so thin. Listening to the scanner here at work, there was a house fire, but so many resources were going to the brush fires, the dispatcher was yelling "we have no one to go to this house fire!" We're on generator power, but the whole neighborhood is in the dark. They're evacuating people out of different areas in neighboring counties, and the Red Cross has disaster response teams out and shelters set up. Last I heard, the governor declared a state of emergency for our area.
It's been complete madness here at work all day. I'm taking five minutes to calm down and check the forums, and I don't care what they say
After work, the meteorologist and I are going for a drive to take some pictures; hopefully, I'll have some stuff to post later.
It's times like this I want to yell like Leeroy Jenkins |

Power's back on most places, but evacuation orders are still out for some places. No one would go take pictures with me, because they suck. I don't see anything wrong with driving around the boonies after midnight in 15-degree weather. Psh.
But I yanked this picture from our local paper. This was taken about three miles from my house.

And this one was taken in the next county to the east, where the evacuations and Red Cross shelter are.
