Lately I've been listening to a lot of City and Colour. Also some Justin Nozuka and James Morrison in between that.

I just got My Morning Jacket's new album today. Fanfreakintastic. I love these guys, they just seem to get better and better.

I've also been listening to some acoustic stuff from City and Colour which is really good as well.

I didn't like what I heard of the new MMJ. I'm all for change, but I think they didn't change for the better, although I do appreciate the "screw what we did before, we're going to do whatever the hell we want" mentality. If you're into the "real" MMJ sound, a band called Fleet Foxes are doing a better job at sounding like MMJ than MMJ does nowadays.

My most recent purchases include:
Whiskeytown- "Pneumonia"
Kate Bush- "Hounds of Love"
Magnetic Fields- "I"
The Wipers- 3-Disc Box Set
Sigur Ros- ()
David Bowie- "Aladdin Sane" (a re-buy because I lost it)

I've also been jamming on Drive Like Jehu's "Yank Crime" a lot. Very interesting guitar work. Also a lot of Sebadoh; "Harmacy" mostly.

Also: Has anyone seen the Joy Division biopic "Control"? I watched it the other night. Absolutely amazing, although I suggest being in a chipper mood before putting it on because it's incredibly sad. Aside from being a huge downer, it's a very well-done film in all respects. The casting is great (it's amazing they found guys who look exactly like the band who could actually act), the cinematography is great, and obviously the soundtrack is good. It wasn't over-dramatized either which was nice because Ian Curtis' story oftentimes is.

I agree that Evil Urges is nothing like It Still Moves, At Dawn, Tennessee Fire or any of their early stuff. I absolutely love all their albums, but I love the fact that they are trying new stuff and expanding what they do. It took me several listens to get into some of the songs, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. Songs like "Touch me I'm going to scream pt.2" I wouldn't have loved right away like some of their earlier stuff, but it's an amazing song. Also, I think a lot of these songs will sound even better live then they do on the album. The early MMJ compared to their last two albums is almost like listening to two different bands, so I can understand how people may be biased towards one or the other.

Never heard of Fleet Foxes, but I will definitely check them out. Thanks for the recommendation. I also want to watch that Joy Division biopic. I've been meaning to check that out.

I really like the new MMJ (I also like fleet foxes, but not as much, however my favorite song of theirs is mykonos from their ep). I can listen to the whole album unlike with it still moves or to a lesser extent z. I don't think there is anything wrong with progressing a sound and moving music forward. highly suspicious is one of my favorite songs (for novelty at first, but now only half so), and the first two tracks, librarian, i'm amazed, those are all really quality songs (not just novelties). give it a couple more listens, you'll probably come along.

speaking of michael jackson sounding songs, I really like the new mgmt album. also if you want a band to stay pretty much the same (but less liek the unicorns than before) the new islands album is pretty good.
