Is anyone surprised or impressed with the Franklin County primary results? Some Topix posters are contending that Curley helped Alloway win the GOP senate nomination by "siphoning" votes from Taylor. Of course the same could be said for the other candidate, Cresswell, so I'm not buying that argument.

Alloway also is being accused of "buying" the election because he raised and spent the most on ads. But like him or not, he also appears to have worked very hard to win, going door to door to reach hundreds of households one-on-one. That's a tough think to do in a district covering more than one county. He also did a lot of networking among party people at state and local levels. That's basic, traditional politics, but so many people decry it today. They respond cynically to EVERYTHING.

Thank God; Taylor scared the crap out of me, but I don't know why someone would vote for Curley over him. Taylor is super right wing conservative; way more so than Alloway seemed so it would seem strange that any democrat would take votes away from him.

So I'm going to call shenanigans on that excuse and say that Alloway simply won.

One things about Alloway's win: It at least clarifies which side of the local GOP schism is coming out on top.

I also found it grimly amusing that anti-Alloway forces were labeling him a "liberal" in those attack ads simply because he's a moderate Republican. If nothing else, his win perhaps signals a diminishing of the influence of the nut jobs, at least locally.

All that "reform" nonsense about Taylor was just a smokescreen, a misdirect away from his neocon roots.

Reform... but Taylor never talked about any local issues. He just kept repeating right-wing rhetoric over and over, and it's nice to see that people are getting tired of that sort of thing.

Everything I read from Taylor had three main points: lower taxes, gun rights and pro-life. That's it. People aren't as dumb as they used to be I guess, because we expect a little more from our elected officials. At least Alloway had ideas; like him or not, he campaigned as a local official, and not just a conservative talk show pundit.

i think that's one of the current trends for republicanism....can't be completely uber freakishly conservative? you must be a LIB! (EWWWW A LIB I SAID A DIRTY WORD)

maybe i shouldn't post today. mine are getting askew and goofy. maybe i'll just throw in my usual: bipartisanship is dead.

whew, there. i feel better.

Or perhaps it was a wake up call to Alloway that it wasn't handed to him...

Another thing to consider: The margin between Alloway and Taylor was, what, 300 votes?

I wonder how many votes Rush's "Operation Chaos" cost Taylor?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. They traded a meaningful vote in a local race for a useless gesture in a national nominating contest. These, um, patriots not only subverted the electoral process (insert "but Dems did it first" whine here) but they also kneecapped one of their own in the process.

Good job, folks. The only kind of "operatives" you turned out to be were of the knife-and-spoon variety.
