| Cookie, you could take the clothes you are going to dump to the farm beside Cresslers Grocery store. They accept them for a mission or something like that. Not sure if you know where it is, but if you go past Cresslers on 11 south there is a dirt lane right beside the dentist office. You just drive down that lane and there is a little white concrete block building on the left. You just open the door and throw the stuff in. |

sweet. (the crazy designer thing)
I have gone the Goodwill route in the past, but maybe I'll do the animal shelter bit also.
(I love browsing Goodwills for funky 'junk'. And thrift stores and consignment stores... Don't think my husband will be giong with me much anymore---I found a top of the head piece in a hat box and kept trying to touch him with it. (Hair clumps, strands, etc completely gross him out and I exploit such things because I'm rotten like that.))
I recommended earlier today that someone contact the local Red Cross to see where to donate a bunch of barely used toys. Since Red Cross provides shelter and necessities to victims of fires, floods, outages and such, they know of most local charities, so they can send you somewhere if they don't take it themselves.
(I know toys aren't a necessity, but I bet it offers welcome distractions when you have scared families in distress.)
Personally, I try to donate to non-denominational or secular charities, primarily because I want any and everyone in need to be able to receive something that could help them up.
People who are not of a particular faith, not practicing, feel they have sinned, have shame or self-esteem issues, have fears of being discriminated against at their lowest point or are just used to religious people like that nasty little jtb fellow, are far less likely to go to a religious based charity for help.
That's not to say that churches are not wonderful supporters of charities. It's a fact that many secular charities have numerous people of faith at all levels of their organization.
But there are a few 'religious' folk operating faith-based charities and shelters that try to attach strings to the assistance they offer and that just doesn't sit right with me. _________________ Nevermind. |
