i hope this doesn't offend anyone, but have you noticed all the people who have memorialized their dead family members on the back of cars? have these people used their inheritance to buy a car, and feel guilty about it (they probably should) or do people not see this as tacky? When I die, if anyone feels the need to memorialize me, I hope it's not on something that depreciates like crazy. That being said, I guess if it was a classic or sentimental car that meant a lot to the person and their loved one, and not a daily driver, it's not as tacky. does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

I agree. I actually say something similar to this every time I see on of these things. It's like a ....car tattoo or something.

Yeah, I think you're missing something....

I think the numbers of vehicles that memorialize Dale Earnhardt outnumber the number of cars memorializing dead family members about 100 to 1.

If I had all the time in the world, I would write a billion-page dissertation on the absurdity of magnetic ribbons.

This is one of the key reasons I support Obama; he's against shallow patriotism. Conservatives use that as an attack on him, but I see it as nothing but a positive.

I hate shallow patriotism. A conservative friend of mine told me he hates Obama because he didn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance.

So I said, "Well, that wasn't during the pledge, it was during the national anthem."

So he says, "Who cares, everyone else did it?"

And I basically said [paraphrased]: 'That doesn't matter; I don't know if you've been to baseball games or not, but putting your hand over your heart has never been any sort of requirement during the national anthem. You put your hand over your heart for the pledge of allegiance to the flag because it's just that, but even if you watch the Olympics, athletes typically don't put their hands over their hearts during the the anthem, from any country, because it's simply a formal moment of silence."

In other words, people frickin hate me for being right.

But you can't win, because a colleague made it quite clear that he 'hates' Obama because, and simply because, he doesn't wear an American flag pin on his lapel.

Don't you understand that this is the sort of elitist thinking we need to get away from? And conservatives call liberals "elitist" and "intellectual." Unbelievable... It's not about magnets on your SUV's, pins on your lapel, or hands over your heart. It's about taking our country out of the worst presidency of our lifetimes and pushing it into a new direction.

And believe me, and new direction is not 74-year-old McCain.
