Suggested by Koozie, put into action by moi.
Bad customer service should be called out.
Good customer service should be expected.
Excellent customer service should celebrated.
Your own experience is all that matters, but I consider far more than the farewell smile of a cashier when rating.
If possible please give each business it's own post, I think you will agree, if they have made it this far, they deserve it! _________________ Nevermind. |

Lyon's & Company
| Coppy wrote: | Lyon's is a quality establishment; perhaps one of the only such places in downtown C-Burg, and, as such, they have a website.
And it's a good website, too... not like the ones cookie and I were making fun of in another thread.
MONDAY - THURSDAY
9:30am - 5:00pm
FRIDAY
9:30am - 8:00pm
SATURDAY
9:30am - 3:00pm
Evenings By Appointment
Whoa! Yes, that's right folks, Lyons is open until 8:00pm on Fridays! Can you believe it? I can't... cruising downtown on a Friday night? Hope you need some menswear because Lyons is the only place open!
Again, I criticize a lot, but credit should be given where it's due... Lyon's is great; the staff is friendly, helpful and know what they're talking about (I think it's just three guys). I bought my first post-college suit there, and another since, as well as many of my shirts and ties (they will help you pick out what goes with what).
Anyway, Lyon's & Co gets the coppy stamp of approval |
We DID end up going to Lyon's. Here is our story.
We ended up getting a sports coat a shirt and a few ties and no suits, because, of course, he procrastinated and did not allow them enough time to ready a suit for him. (pants are in house unaltered and are tailored to the purchaser.)
Seriously, Lyons was such a fantastic shop. High quality products, excellent, honest advice, everything I expect from a high caliber establishment! (They are Faboo!!)
We went in there looking like two ragamuffins, wet with rain and were immediately assisted by Dennis, who didn't bat an eye at our scruffiness and listened to all of our concerns. He actually got DH to open up about styles, patterns and colors he liked (that just doesn't happen! SRSLY)
Neither Dennis nor John (who wrapped things up for us) tried to push product on us or steer H one way or another and they made sure he was comfortable. They were even able to get H to admit he wasn't a 36W anymore AND made it look like it was his own decision, so it didn't hurt his feelings. (I will delete this if H starts cruising this site again!)
We will be going back to them forever and always. (Of course, we have to go back anyway after H's interview because they are going to make a teensy adjustment to the new coat that they could not have done before the interview.)
That said, in the spirit of honesty, their prices *may* cause sticker shock with some. I thought they were about standard, H was a little
I'm guessing it's because both my grandfather and dad had/have 'suit' jobs, so I am a little more accustomed with prices than H, who has little familiarity with such things.
Sports Coat $285 Long sleeve Dress Shirt $65 Ties $49.50 each
Again, I found that to be completely reasonable (especially the ties--- did I mention that they have some gorgeous ties!?) and H didn't think it was too bad. (Obviously---we bought the items!)
There were a variety of dress/casual pieces available for selection, shorts, camp shirts, polos, some head wear, a few boxers (they had some cute ones with little fish skeletons, but H said no )
They also have a clearance room, but I didn't get a chance to look through it.
I really like the decor too, but I suppose that doesn't effect the merchandise so much.
In conclusion, I will patronize this shop again.
Men's dress wear lasts awhile, classic styles stay classic and wears well, as long as it is taken care of. I would not go so far as to call mens wear an investment, but you do get your value from it IMO.
Even if you don't have occasion to wear dress clothing often, there will always be some time you will need it.
And let's be honest, whether you want them to or not, your clothing says something about you, don't you want it say good things?
Highly recommend. _________________ Nevermind. |

I'm so glad that you got Dennis!
Ah, the price of hand-tailored, great clothing... the Wal-Mart effect has us all thinking even formal wear should cost $19.95 |

| I was recently at the new Lowe's in Ship and had a few questions about what to use on my basement walls and the areas where rain was coming into my basement. An older gentleman came up to me and asked if he could help me with anything (sorry I didn't get his name). He was very helpful and answered all my questions, suggested different products and how to use them. He was very informative and I was very pleased with his friendliness and knowledge. |

| BTW, thanks chel. I do agree with you that you should always receive good customer service, but that doesn't happen all the time and it is good to be able to commend those who do give good service. |

Actually, Koozie, the thanks should go to you. We have mentioned great service we've received in a few random threads, but you are absolutely right -- We should give equal time to good experiences and not always focus on the bad.
Just as a bad experience carries the power to foul up your day a wonderful encounter has the chance to turn a day around (at least with me.)
It pleases me that your Shippensburg Lowes experience was helpful, the Chambersburg Lowes has been the opposite for me, I think it is because they don't have any real competition. _________________ Nevermind. |

Montezuma's on Wayne Avenue
I hesitated to put this here, since it has been mentioned before in the Cuisine section, but excellent is excellent, so here goes.
Every time I dine here I am impressed with the service. (Except for one of the first, but it was crowded, mid-summer weekend and we got stuck at the table next to the defunct drive-thru window----if they ever try to sit you there, refuse.)
Our drinks never slipped below the halfway mark, the food is served hot, fresh and quickly. My only problem is that I eat too much and leave with boxes of leftovers, but that really isn't the waiter's fault, now is it?
I'm not fond of crowds, so I tend to go early and I'm partial to weekdays. (we went on Monday around 4:45 because I was starving!)
Lack of full tables may have something to do with service, but they could have just as easily ignored us and the level of service has been relatively consistent. _________________ Nevermind. |

I'm an off-hours diner as well since I hate crowds or waiting to be seated, but I can say that I've been to the Wayne Montezuma's when it's absolutely packed and received top-notch service as you described. The food is always hot and fresh, drinks are always refilled.
I also want to give a nod to the Route 30 Montezuma's which also provides excellent customer service; the food is a little different, since these obviously aren't standardized chains, and I think I just might find their food a bit tastier than the Wayne Ave location... maybe that's just me!
Either way, you can't lose.
There are several other local businesses that I wish I spent as much time praising as I do berating the lousy places (since there are so many more of the latter).
I've had great experiences from the following places (non-food related) if anyone wants to take these and run with them...
Tip Top Cleaners
Keystone Health Center
Scott's Tire
Strickler Insurance
Public Opinion
I wish there were more
Although I know I'm missing a few great places that unfortunately slip your mind... |

shetter insurance.....ALWAYS great service...if i need something they instantly help. my grandparents started using them years ago, then my mom and dad and now me...so 3 generations to attest to them kudos every time!
and also, Highland Tires....they literally have helped me out at the drop of a hat....flat tire? bring it in....engine light on? no problemo? oil change? let's schedule you in. i <3 them and their service.
and hamilton heights market. friendly. have known them since i was a baby, they are originals of my neighborhood where my grandparents lived since 40s and my parents as well when they branched out on their own in 70s...and they are always friendly and helpful and fast. it's nice to go there, chit chat w/them and head out on my merry way.
f&m trust has been good to me as well. i use the branch by sunnyway and the main one and ship. when i was ID thefted years ago, they stayed after hours to make sure everything was in order and did several follow ups to make sure all was well. that was especially considerate of them. |

| Speaking of insurance companys, I deal with State Farm, through Tracey Rush and have to say that all the girls that work there are super nice and very knowledgeable and so is Tracey. I live in Ship, but use to live in Cburg where I first started dealing with Tracey Rush's office. I still use him, even though I could get a local agent here in Ship, because of the friendly staff at his office. |

When a business owner, employee or any person takes that extra step to be helpful I always make it a point to tell them how much I appreciate what they did. So many people complain and it is sad, but complements are not so common. Showing appreciation and kindness not only makes the other person feel good but me too
I even go to parents of well behaved children in public places and complement them on their well mannered little ones. Sadly that is really rare in this society. _________________ onewhoknows

I have a friend from Puerto Rico and she says the Rt 30 Montezuma's food is better than Wayne Avenue. My palate isn't very discriminating, so I love them both equally. |
