I agree Bobo, and yeah I think that's a big part of the charm that people like about Waynesboro. But there is give and take with all these things, and it's unlikely that the downtown area will ever be able to revitalize itself, and actually I would consider no growth at all a very negative thing. If no one new is coming to your area, or there aren't new jobs being created to sustain an ever-changing and skilled workforce, then things will simply stay as they are perhaps degrade a bit.
But people are ok with that; they'd rather see no development over any development and as long as things stay quiet and peaceful, then that's fine by them.
Personally, I'm constantly looking forward to change and growth, and economic development of all kinds and I'm excited to see it in Chambersburg and just hoping that it can be done responsibly as we go along. |

Hmm. I guess I'm just a country girl at heart. I like quiet and peaceful. I so miss the days when you could ride your bike on a country road just outside of town and not take your life in your hands because a car comes along every 5 seconds. I miss the days when you could ride around the beautiful countryside right outside of town without having to go through housing development after housing development - and actually see cows out grazing in the fields. There are so many things about the way it was when I was growing up that are gone now - and not for the better. So I guess you and I just have to agree to disagree on this one. At least you're nice about it.  |

In the same way, a single year does not have just spring or summer. A single day, too, is the same. For this reason, although one would like to change today's world back to the spirit of one hundred years or more ago, it cannot be done. Thus it is important to make the best out of every generation. |

Waynesboro is a nice place, but you're leaving out a key problem: location. It's just not along any major arteries or highways leaving it out of the tourist loop and inconvenient for industry.
I think Waynesboro will have a difficult time growing in the neat future compared to Franklin County communities along I-81. |

And some of the county's most fertile farmland is in that area. The officials in Washington Township have been on a mission for years to develop every square inch. Now that Quincy Township has sewer, the same thing is happening there. The lack of vision and concern about what has until recently been a wonderful way of life makes me very sad. |
I agree with everything you said, but I must add another problem. The new crosswalk idea is a mess. It is alarming to me that there is not one but several newly painted crosswalks that "come up" on the driver. What is most frustrating to me is that they would be great if done correctly. The crosswalks should have been positioned to give the DRIVER the best advantage. Why, oh why, could they not see this???

Umm, we also hijack threads a lot.
And ramble.
I would pass some of my Ritalin out to Soapboxers, but I lost it awhile back (in case you haven't noticed)
And I wouldn't wait for a reply from Bobo, she left awhile back because *somebody* was being mean... well, sometimes meaness is relative. It was a disagreement over political candidates.
Regardless, I miss Bobo. I liked her.
We do have disagreements here, but they're more mature than the Topix brawls. Don't be skeered.
