I'll agree that these shows have leanings, but they do also target Democrats. That makes them appear more real and I find it refreshing.

One needs only view rabid Anonymous' posts on Haloscan to realize that GOPpies apparently aren't allowed to point out stupidity in their own party. (Hence Dave being called names and being denied his membership in his political party.) I think that is yet another turn-off for me, in regards to neo-cons.
Why is it so wrong to look at stupid and call it stupid? I tell my friends when their acting like morons, hoping that they'll straighten up and fly right. Why is it so traitorous to do so in the Republican party?

As for Ben Stein, he is incredibly smart with a great memory to boot! It's weird to think he and Pat Buchanan knew each other, even worked together. What's that about strange bedfellows, again?

Young Conservative,

Did we chase you off your own thread?

You can't leave!

I have questions!!!

While I'm waiting for Y.C. to show up (Hey, P.O. could you work out his single sentence problem, please? Thank you.) What do ya'll think of Ron Paul? He has a dedicated base and some very intriguing platforms. I only know what I've read though, I don't remember ever seeing him speak.

I don't think he has a snowball's chance of receiving the nomination, but it doesn't mean we can't discuss him, right?

Ron Paul strikes me as the kind of Republican that Mixolydian was talking about earlier, a true Reagan conservative in both the social and fiscal sense.

If I had to vote Republican next year (and Lord knows I might, given this field) I'd likely choose him. I'm more of a social liberal and fiscal conservative, so I don't mesh totally with Congressman Paul, but he seems to be something both more and less than your usual politician.

Which, of course, is why he doesn't have a prayer. The neocons who have hijacked the GOP love to talk about Reagan while scraping before their global corporatist masters, but if they followed Reagan's fiscal philosophy they wouldn't be able to pursue their agenda.

Seems there's a schism in the GOP today, so naturally, when anyone starts talking about recruiting young conservatives, it's interesting to find out which side of the GOP aisle they're on. Too bad YC hasn't reappeared to clarify further.

(Incidentally, he/she's the only one I've heard talking about this "one line only" posting business, so color me skeptical.)

Here's an amusing thought:
I think Stewart and Colbert and fantastic. I find O'Reilly offensive and would like very much to see the 'old' Dennis Miller. I think Ann Coulter is as dangerous to civilized society as Hillary. Here's the clincher...I'm a Republican!

I know, I know, I try to fight the demon that is right wing conservatism, but I can't get past it yet.

Maybe I need stronger medication.

Sorry, Young Conservative. I disagree (and am happy to see that other posters do, as well!). You can't, and shouldn't try, to legislate morals. Isn't that what the founding fathers wanted to protect against when they said church and state should be separate?

When government tries to tell me what I can do in my own bedroom, I call that oppression.

Conservatism, itself, is not a demon. It has been corrupted by demons.

I think people have a tendency to take a good idea and pervert it so that it lines up with their beliefs and then they go around, acting nutty while screaming "I'm a Republican!"...not the best P.R. campaign. Confused

It's the same with the Dems and Christians and animal rights groups...

I'm going to have to disagree with you that Hillary and Ann are equally bad.

Coulter says things to deliberately be hurtful and inflammatory (or she is a complete moron). Not once have I seen an example of her trying to open up a dialogue between opposing parties --- if you don't agree with her, she napalms you.

Clinton does attempt to work with people she doesn't like; it seems that she will do what it takes to get a job done.

She isn't my favorite candidate, but, as of right now,I could see voting for her.

Hurray for 'Chel! I don't understand why so many people try to vilify Hillary Clinton. I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

I'll bet if you posted that on the Haloscan, you'd find out in a hurry what people don't like about Hillary. That's not to say you'd get even one rational reason, but you'd get an ear-full.

The depth of the hatred for her among the red-staters is hard to comprehend, but it is, undeniably, real. For that reason alone, I can't imagine her being successful. The irrational hatred would rise up to a level that would make the Swift Boaters look like the Cub Scouts.

I keep reading where people have listened to her talk and come away feeling like she is a viable candidate. But all those people are reasonable, open minded individuals - the kind of people that simply don't have a majority in the US (or in Franklin County). She can't win and the Democrats will lose the White House if they put her up.

Thus saith The Mouse, all-knowing political prognosticator. Wink

How about that word, 'chel - prognosticator!

Hillary is, pure and simple, just too far left for me. As are Joe Biden, Evan Bayh and Al Gore. That is why I won't vote for her. Not because she is a woman. Not because she is Bill Clinton's wife. Not for any silly thoughtless reason. I find her intelligent, articulate and conversational. However, Hillary was used in my example because I was also using Ann Coulter, a woman and a Republican.

I don't rule out all Democrats. I have researched Russ Feingold, who unfortunately is now not running and liked most of what I saw.

Yes, I see Ann Coulter as venomous. I agree with you, chel, in that she doesn't actually communicate with people on the opposite side as much as telling them why they are ignorant for their stance.

I guess skeptical is good. You think that I didn’t have anything to say to your disagreement. That’s ok also. But anyhow, the discussion about morals vs law is interesting. I ask, what are the groups’ thoughts on public smoking? The government regulates this, and I don’t hear a peep out of any Democrats (liberals) that this is regulating a behavior. I really don’t care about the regulation of smoking—I don’t smoke. Why is the government attempting to ban public smoking? It may not be for moral reasons, but it it—as they say, for health reasons. Now I think there is a underlining intent from the left to ban smoking, and we are seeing this with the continuation of this fight in trans-fat. So I would think that the left would be on board some sort of “legislating morality”.
More to come…

republicans tried to vilify both clintons because they're threatened by them. they didn't get it to stick to Bill, but they might have succeeded with Hillary, aided by misogamy and a media that repeats things to make them conventional wisdom. all that being said, I'm not even big Clinton fans. they are too centrist to me,; and Hillary is now pandering to the same money interests that Bush did. But given a choice between her and almost anyone in the Republican field, I'd choose Hillary.
