Chambersburg seems to have about the longest red lights anywhere around.
And other thing, it would be safer for drivers and pedestrians if the borough didn't allow parking so close the intersections. And there's the gridlock on U.S. 30 through town -- once you're in Chambersburg, you can't wait to get out!
The borough should have a snow emergency policy for clearing the streets too, so blackened mounds of snow don't stick around until spring, and people don't fight over cleared spaces, by illegally placing chairs in the spaces, etc.
Better syncing of lights and more sensible rules would make visits to town less frustrating, and people might even return voluntarily. |

Oh, come on, postaff!
You can't very well criticize this town for being full of complainers then do the same thing. Don't become part of the problem just to generate discussion. You can do better than that. |

| I agree on the U.S. 30 traffic comment. This has been a problem for years, and was not improved by the widening of LWE. There has to be a better way to move U.S. 30 traffic through Chambersburg without turning the town into a parking lot at busy times of the day and even weekends. |

| I personally don't complain about anything unless I think that my suggestions would make things better (more attractive/liveable). Who's to decide if the county is full of complainers or just people who are trying to improve things? The PO made a call some months ago in an editorial but is now taking the other side. |

I don't see this as being about the PO. They are just trying to get discussions going. In fact they are trying to do something for the public by creating this forum for people to express their views. In fact I have seen/heard comments before from readers on all of the traffic issues listed in the first post. Come on, give the PO credit for starting a good thing.
I think it would be hard to dispute that Chambersburg has a traffic problem. Does anyone have a solution? |

i agree that Chambersburg has a problem with the traffic lights...they need to get all the lights in sync with each other so that the flow will continue in a smooth and orderly fashion...but then again you have those that like to cut off others so that they can be first in line when the light changes. |

| Why do we have to have so many red lights? If traffic flowed through Chambersburg there would be more breaks for cars entering Lincoln Way. The light on Radio Hill at Food Lion is the reason for the horrific traffic back up. How much did it cost to install that light so the 5 people who shop there can exit onto Rt 30? |

| My biggest pet peeve with traffic on Rt. 30 is the lane that merges left in front of McDonald's and Long John Silver's but is also the right turn lane for those businesses. People are so discourteous, rushing through the light and then cutting in front. Heaven forbid if you actually want to turn into one of those establishments! Why in world was it set up that way? |

AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!! I couldn't agree more. There is no sign at the light letting people know that lane ends. If you are in that lane and have Pa tags you are not getting in front of me. I have no respect for idiot drivers taht are trying to get car ahead of me!!! |

Citizens of C-burg! (And EVERYWHERE ELSE!!!)
When you hear the sirens of the police, ambulance, or fire department, pull your butts/behinds over to the right. That's the law. That's common sense.
What? You didn't hear them? Turn your darn music down so that you can hear then in case of an emergency.
They have lights, too.
You didn't see them? Stop changing the radio station, CDs, text messaging, chit-chatting with the whole gang in the car.
Hey, it might be your family member in danger, you house on fire, or a homicidal maniac just spotted. _________________ Unless they share our opinions, we seldom find people sensible. |

| Why is it ok for smokers to litter the area with their cigarette butts? That includes the C'burg cop that I observed smoking in the new parking lot downtown during Apple Fest. He just flicked his butt on the ground. Try the same with a candy wrapper and you'll get ticketed. Enoughs enough![/i][/b] |

I wish the blue haired Buick drivers would look up and see that the speed limit is 45 MPH in the newly widened area of LWE. If you want to waddle along at 35 MPH, get in the right lane.
It's bad enough we have to go thru 6 poorly timed traffic lights to get from Hess to Sheetz on LWE. Leave it to PENNDOT and local yokles. We need a stop light at every intersection with Rt-30. Yah sure. Call it progress when we put another light at Soellenberger and LWW. Serves to congest and further backup traffic. Soon we'll have to wait in Gettysburg to get over Radio Hill.
Why no right turn lane off of Rt-11 North at Orchard Drive? Probably for the same reason most stop lights are posted NO RIGHT ON RED. The local traffic police feel most resident would put themselves in danger if they tried Right-On-Red.
Enoughs Enough. |

(I don't really see these peeves as being unique to Chambersburg.)
We wouldn't need so many red lights if drivers were more considerate. Turning on to Sollenberger Road is just about impossible coming into town from the west on Route 30.
Very few people will let you turn (even though they are stopped). And then you have the idiots heading west on 30 who have to get in front of everybody by speeding along in the left lane until Dilly's then turning into the line of traffic at the last second.
Things would be much better if drivers were more considerate and more patient.
And when did it become taboo to stop at stop signs?
