Here are some ideas for improving the Chambersburg Mall, from a poster who commented on the Value City story.
Dear Chambersburg Mall:
1. Please fix your broken entry doors that always stick locked and closed - (isn't this a fire/panic code violation, someone?).
2. Please reduce that awful public bus station odor in your entryways.
3. Quite hassling the kids who do have some disposable income from hanging around on Friday nights.
4. I don't buy jewelry, shoes, pretzels, hot dogs, tools, or dollar items.
5. Get rid of those many low-budget looking self-contained kiosks selling their wares in the main thoroughfare. They look like street peddlers.
And finally - Could ya maybe have a store come here that I actually would ENJOY shopping at? I'm tired of driving to your sister Hagerstown Mall for "real stores."
Lastly, if you can't do all this and make Chambersburg Mall more attractive, add better retail, and improve its upkeep, then please close it.
We could use that land for a nice public golf course. |

I couldn't agree more. The mall has got sooo bad over the yesrs. I perfer to go to Hagerstown then be caught going to this one. Honestly soon the gateway/Target center will offer more than what Chanmbersburg calls a mall. And who nam,ed it Chambersburg when it is in Scotland?????? |

| I would kill for an honest to goodness book store in this town! Doesn't anyone read?! I can only hope that my 'bring-a-Borders-to-Chambersburg' dance works one day! |

I order most of my books on line anymore, but a Borders would be a nice addition to Norland Avenue! |

Agreed - a bookstore is sorely lacking in this town.
Although Amazon is often cheaper and used bookstores downtown are an option because I work near them, a good bookstore is a great way to spend an afternoon, plus the variety is great and the discount tables usually have some good deals.
There is a chain called Joseph-Beth that would be a nice addition to the area. Borders is great, but they own Walden and there is a Walden at the mall so probably the location is too close or some nonsense like that. _________________ It's not what you do once in a while, its what you do day in and day out that makes a difference! |

| Of course they could always transition the Waldens at the mall to a Borders. There's lots of space up there...maybe that would actually be a draw . Right now I only go there to go to Hot Topic and occasionally see a movie. I too, order most of my books from Amazon (as I like alot of books from the U.K.) |

I completely agree that we need some more bookstores. The problem is that there is a lack of people who see the value in reading. We dictate which stores are here in our community by the amount of money we spend there. As far as the stores at the mall, the problem lies in the fact that we as Franklin-countians are cheap~I've lived here my whole life so I can say that . When the Gap was leaving, I asked why they were closing. An employee stated that in this area, people will not purchase items at full price and they were constantly having to mark things down to sell. No wonder they left!
And as a side note, I can not tell you how many people I have heard complain that Target is overpriced and expensive. TARGET!?! It's a clean upscale Walmart not a Sacks Fifth Avenue! |

| I must admit I'm cheap and quite proud of it . I'll never pay full price for anything. Sorry but in the scheme of things those "upscale" clothes are way over priced. How much do you think it costs to make those clothes? Even w/ shipping and assorted other costs ...they're still making a tidy profit. Good for them, if others want to pay those prices. However, for me jeans are jeans and I'm not paying $30 a pair when I can buy basically the same thing for $10. |

I was at a training for work. The instructor commented that you can tell what direction an area is heading by the amount of Dollar stores it has.
Look around the area.
What does this tell you? |

I am soooo glad taht we finally got anice clean store like Target in this area. It is a well needed change with this town depending on WALMART!!! I hate going to Walmart ...God forbid you try to shop on weekends. You feel like a minority out there and their prices are rising also. Why was dog food 3.00 cheaper at Target then there. I guess someday all of you "one stop shoppers" are going to relize that is why they charge more on everyday stuff.
99% of my business goes to Target now.
A sidenote...compare Toy R us's prices vs Walmart prices......guess who is cheaper????????? |

| I can't stand Wallyworld but am not a big fan of Target either, at least I won't be until their cashiers get better training on Target's own coupon policies and become alot friendlier |

The mall's no better or worse than it's always been. In other words, it's always had one or two cool stores surrounded by a bunch of useless fluff. Just like most other malls.
It just suffers nowadays by comparison with some of the nicer retail centers in Hagerstown and, increasingly, out at Gateway. You want to see a truly crappy mall, check out the one in Hanover...
The main problem with the mall is its location. Once everyone south of the Scotland exit on I81 starts going elsewhere for their shopping, it will just turn into another ghost town like Southgate.
PS - I agree, an upscale book store would be nice... |

| The mall was built in the worst area possible. There is nothing around there and they can't keep stores. I remember when it was first built there were nice fountains which made it look nicer and the sound was pleasant. They've taken those feature's out which makes it look blah and there are no decent stores other than possibly the anchors. |

The anchor stores will keep it alive long past it's expiration date.
They already have... |
