Wilson is an extremely small, 800-student liberal arts college with a student body that is probably well over 90% female.

Trust me, you won't need to worry about frats, parties or noise. As far as I know, that neighborhood near Wilson is among Chambersburg's nicest.

Where do you live now?

Live in Mesa Arizona. We are moving there the end of March.

Saw a house on vine street that is for sale, and very interested it.

Just want to find out about the area there. One more question, this house has off street parking. I am wondering if I would have a problem parking in front of the house, with the college being across the street, or are there laws or something there so people can not take your parking. Probably not, but I thought Id ask,lol

I use to live in Pa but not since the age of nine. 36 now.

I used to rent a place on East Vine Street, which is a one-way, east-running connector between Philadelphia Avenue and Broad Street, directly across from Henninger Field.

Are we talking about the same street? East Vine is about three blocks south of the Wilson campus.

If so, know that it's an old, cramped neighborhood. Most of the houses are 70 or 80 years old in various states of repair, separated only by walkways. Mine was a dump. The next door neighbor used to keep four huge dogs in a fenced backyard that might have been 200 square feet. Instead of scooping poop, they threw hay down on top of it, which got quite aromatic in August.

Also, someone on the block at the time kept a rooster (I swear I am not making this up) which naturally did it's thing at the break of dawn.

Unless you get a great deal, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. A block north along Philadelphia Avenue, the houses start to grow into mansions compared to those on Vine Street.

I'd probably stay in Arizona.

But if you're looking for a small town, just move to Shippensburg.

Here is a link to the house. I reasearched it and found that it is in forclosure. The price just dropped 15k. I know it has purple walls, but they can be painted beige:) Its cheap enough that we would be able to afford to update the inside.

I just love that it is all brick and the hard wood floors, and the outdoor nursery.

Let me know what you think. I emailed the realtor to get more info on what repairs need to be done.

Apparently, that's a different street, sorry for the false alarm.

I just saw "Vine Street," and even now, eight years later, I heard the ghost of that rooster screeching.

*shudder

LOL. Its not just the small towns. Years ago when I lived in Tempe,
My neighbor had chickens and a rooster running around his yard that gave me a nice morning wakeup, and this is in the middle of an urban neighborhood, lol

Unfortuanlry, I think he poisoned my cat becaue he was worried about his chickens. It was really sad, and I couldnt proove it, ended up moving.

Good call. Chambersburg seems nice at first, but Shippensburg is much smaller with slightly more to do and a much more lively and friendly atmosphere. You do however, actually have to worry about drunken fratties running around unlike if you were across the street from Wilson where you'd just have to worry about girls on a granola high.

LOL.

I think I want to stay in Chambersburg, as I have a heart condition and want to be close by to a hospital in case of emergncy.

I am almost 40, my partying days are over. I just want some quiet, 4 seasons again, and less traffic. Its like LA here in the Phoenix area now.
Even at 3am , I can hear the traffic. This sunmmer was the worst on record. It just now started cooling down in the last week. In fact turned my heat on for the first time last night.

Just looked at a map, I guess this is W. Vine. Looks like it is off of main street. Still waiting to hear from the realtor, but mabey they are off for the Thanksgiving weekend.

I have a strange question. I love the older homes, and I noticed a lot of them that are listed, have thier fireplaces shut down and boarded off. Why is that? Just curiouse.

I'm not sure, but my guess would be that these old fireplaces are drafty and inefficient, energy-wise.

If it's the same Vine Street I know - and I think it is, I don't think Torgo was mistaken - that's a pretty crummy neighborhood. You mentioned wanting peace and quiet. You won't find it there. I'd look elsewhere if I were you. There are lots of nice neighborhoods in Chambersburg, but also plenty of bad ones. Keep looking and check in with the board. We won't steer ya wrong.

Ok I just pulled out google earth. It is not on East vine, but West Vine. West vine is directly accross the street from wilson colege. There are only three homes on the street. Its 2 streets NE of riddle Alley.

Vine St is a few blocks from Wilson. If I'm not mistaken there is no access to Rte 11 from W Vine, you would need to access from the other direction. It may be a nice & quiet back there.

Hey Amatrine,

I work at Wilson College and I can tell you that West Vine Street is not directly across from the college. As others have said, it is several blocks south of the college, toward the center of town. I found it on MapQuest. As Curious said, it may not intersect with U.S. 11. Actually, I think it may be more of an alley, but next time I drive in that way, I'll check.
