Ok, I just assumed that that was the college across the street. There what looks like a babseball field across the street, with a parking lot and large bulidings.

That baseball field is Henninger Field. It is owned by the Borough of Chambersburg and currently used by the high school baseball team for their home games. The large buildings were formerly a frozen pie factory, now closed down.

Yes that's right, it's Henninger Field. When I was in school, the high school soccer team played night games there. As for the Van de Camp's factory, it is closed down but I remember a warehousing operation moved in there and tractor-trailers were supposed to be coming and going from those facilities. Could be pretty noisy. Anybody know if that company is still in there? Sorry, I can't remember the name of it.

I haven't read through all the comments so forgive me if I repeat info.

That home is on W. Vine St, over behind Henninger Field. That area has become a bit run down. I often take my son for walks over by Wolf Creek and the Wilson stables and we pass this area/neighborhood. It seems to be a quiet area, definately will have no problems with the college. As for the general condition of the area .. I'd say it's so-so. No pretty view, that's for sure, quiet none-the-less.

Aside from getting hung up on the East/West thing, it looks like I was right after all.

The Vine Street I was on was directly across from Henninger. It's one-way, one-lane, from Philadelphia Avenue (U.S. 11) to Broad Street. If the place you're looking at has off-street parking, it must be closer to the Philadelphia Avenue end of the street. Most of the people there have to scrap for spots on the road.

After seeing the pictures, that place looks a lot nicer than the one I was in. There are much worse low-income neighborhoods in Chambersburg, and I met a few decent folk there. The only neighborly feud I had there involved a woman who took exception to my parking in "her" space on a public road, but it sounds like that won't be an issue for you.

And yes, there is a trucking company back there. I don't think it's Knouse but there are apple type crates stacked up at the rear of their property. I've been by there and have seen that the gates are often open so I assume the establishment is still operational.

W. Vine is accessible from Commerce St.

I was driving near this house yesterday so I took a spin down that part of Vine St. The house is sandwiched between the other two houses on the street. There is not much room on either side. I did not see any off street parking. The trucking place is directly across the street. Not a very family friendly spot in my opinion. The house is cute though.

Finaly got some info on the house. Turns out it needs all new electrical and is on a flood plain, so that one is out. Back to the hunt. Thanks:)

We are looking at another house, that is on King Street. Does anyone know what elemtary school would go with that area? Thanks

Is Shippensburg out of the question, despite lower-priced housing, better schools and much more of a 'small-town' feel?

No, it isnt, There just is not any propery there for sale in my price range.
We are flying out in 7 weeks to look at some houses. Mabey something will come up by then, but at the moment the market looks pretyy slow.

I won't swear to it, but I think King street is Mary B. Sharpe Elem. for now. It is a one deep school (I didn't even know those still existed, until we moved here!)

I'm not sure of your price range, but there are a couple of houses For Sale on Fifth Avenue, Wilson Avenue and on Scotland Avenue between Norland and Broad Street. Also a few on Lincoln Way heading towards King street like you're coming from Lowe's...Help me out ya'll is that L.W. west? (I would probably avoid those properties, but that's just me.

The traffic is heavier on 5th Ave than it used to be, but I love the homes.

And Wilson Avenue is one of my all time favorite streets for homes (not counting those almost mansions on Hwy 11 near Wilson College {drool})

We went with Pam Mease at Coldwell Banker in Hagerstown as our buyer's agent, it was very much worth it! She cannot go too far outside of Franklin County, but she was honest, sweet and super helpful!!
