I remember Hoover's. It was the last stop after a day at Caledonia!
I'll through another one out. Anybody remember the Dairimaid on Scotland Avenue? They used the have the BEST ice cream. I've never found anything like their peppermint stick ice cream!
As for steak sandwiches, Assantes is pretty good too!

Fresh daily hand-tossed dough or the current trend in frozen, cardboard like crust. If there are no air/yeast bubbles in the crust, you can have it.
In Franklin Cty, Pizza Hut, Domino, Little Sleazer, are boss to many. They enjoy cardboard crust, ketchup, plastic cheese, ground up, red looking sausage. In a pinch they may curb a hunger pang if consumed within 15 minutes of done. Do not attempt seconds after they have cooled. Might as well eat the corrugated carton. Feed the dog or better yet, use the left overs as frizbies for the dog. Nahhhh...my dog deserves better...trash it!

This is exactly why I'm having the pizza tournament.
I can say I've only done two rounds, and they've all been from Pat & Carla's-owned places and I have yet to be impressed.
Caretti's is actually next; I'm putting the two Caretti's pizzas against each other to see which one is best.
People around here really do love their sauce tasting like ketchup. |

ship has a lot of pizza....pizza n stuff's the best imo, but there's also pizza man, brothers, pizza hut, that strange (haha) pizza place on the corner that sells $4.95 (or was it $5.95?) pizzas....um....i'm sure there are more and i'm missing them.
i eat out all the time. can you tell? mei lyn's is good for a sushi/chinese night but i usually get delivery from either the restaurant by walmart or the one by food lion. lolz. lazy me!
pizza n' stuff. sooooooooo yummy. their subs are great. and they have a chicken finger and fry appetizer/side that is only like $4 and it's easily enough for a meal (if you eat an average amt). their subs (hot and cold) are good too. they have delicious bread. soooooo hungry. |

my mom loved that place. she still talks about it. kenny's has good ice cream. i love their pina colada one when it's the flavor of the month. their lemon is heavenly and their strawberry is rockin too.
ditto igloo. i'm a fan of their raspberry anything...
bruster's isn't bad either (oh, god, their birthday cake ice cream......delish! i love the cake and icing bits that is in the ice cream...lol)

I worked for Hoover's before they sold out to the 'new' owner who named it Dodies. Do you remember those wonderfully tacky green barstools? The kitchen was ancient and the ice cream homemade and delicious. Wow - takes me back!

lol!!! i had to defend the sisterhood of kenny's and hoover's. we ate at kenny's (for the most part) every saturday evening of my childhood. kennyburgers. shrimp dinners. they used to have a 'food bar' that wasn't too bad, but it didn't go over well.
i didn't eat as much at hoover's because it was 'on the other end of town' as we say in chambersburg...but i remember the bar stools that were green! lol...Dodies tho has a delicious chicken dinner.
so, we've also hit the Treat in ship....anyone a fan of Diffy's? similar line of foodage lolz... |

I think you can probably get the same "shrimp dinner" from Van De Kamp's.
I lived in Shippensburg for a while and both Pizza Man and Pizza N' Stuff have pretty good pizza. Plus I've definitely gotten pies from the place that sells them for dirt cheap ($4.95 for cheese; 5.95 for pepperoni if I remember correctly); not "good" pizza, but probably worth it to any broke college student.
Mei Lin's was great, but since their original sushi chef left it hasn't been quite as good. Or, to be more fair, it's kind of hit-or-miss. I think Ginger House in Chambersburg is serving better sushi for now.
Any word on that new bistro that got the economic development liquor license? Geez, we need something other than family-style restaurants and chain places. |

yes! ginger house--that's the name of it...i couldn't remember it. i ate there a handful of times and really enjoyed each trip. good foods, there.

where's that located at? at least panera is coming...good for a quick in and out option other than *ugh* greasy fries and burgers....
i wish we had a thai or indian restaurant in town (or closer than carlisle/harrisburg area)...or a place that server healthy-ish food for decent prices. 7 P's is ok for that, on occasion. |

We'll never get Indian or Thai (two of personal favorites) but at least there's one of each in Carlisle which isn't too far if you're in Ship...

yeah i've heard the indian place in carlisle (slash "hookah lounge") was pretty good. they have a buffet. always nice for lunch...and amy's thai is very good. good spring rolls. i'm a huge curry fan. yum! their peanut sauces are excellent and atmosphere wasn't bad. the only bad thing is trying to find the darn'd place for the first time...ugh! c'est impossible! lolz....
7 P's used to be Pibbys, over by....is it liberty or catherine (i've forever gotten those two confused)..by the high school. it's ok for sandwiches/soups...that sort. |

I need to try Javid's buffet; but Amy's buffet is fantastic. They've limited their hours though from what it used to be so I'm never really sure when to go anymore. Talk about hard to find! I must have walked around Carlisle for a half hour trying to find it the first time.
As for Pibby's, now I know exactly what you're talking about. It's right across from Emily's. I tried eating there a couple weeks ago, but, like many a Chambersburg eatery, they are closed ALL WEEKEND. So no Saturday lunch; maybe I'll give it a go sometime during the week. But if it's just "ok" then I'm not sure why I'd bother at this point.
Speaking of Emily's, they easily have the best brunch in Chambersburg. |

My sister and her friend use to work at the Dairymaid. The banana splits that were made there were the best ever. They also made delicious chicken salad sandwiches (to this day my sisters friend can still make the chicken salad) Another one from back in the day was the Custard Kitchen, which sat at the corner of Coldbrook and Lincoln Way West across from where Taco Hell now sits. There ice cream was homeade and sooooooo good.
I was wondering if anyone has eaten Edith's Pizza? |

It's coming up in my pizza tournament; they're up against Pizza Factory but that's not for a couple weeks. Maybe early to mid January. |

I picked up two Edith's pies a couple of months ago to take home for supper. I love pizza and and am not a discriminating connoisseur by any stretch - some I like better than others, but they are all good. But I didn't like Edith's at all. The sauce had a bad flavor (much too sweet) and they seemed to skimp on the cheese. I'm interested to see the outcome of the great pizza tournament.
