Any one have any more info about this one case in GASD? I know that this has been around for years but too much local. Crying or Very sad

There was another case reported in Cumberland Co. last week, as well.

Ya know, if kids were allowed to be kids when they were little (for the past couple of generations) this kind of crap wouldn't be happening.

Were there "Superbugs" 50 years ago? I don't think so. Why? Because when kids were sick, most of us waited out the illness. We weren't given antibiotics right away. We didn't sterilize everything in sight. We played in the dirt. Heck, we even ate dirt sometimes!

Get the kids back outside, stop using antibiotics as much, hide the video games, the tvs, the computers, return to family dinners, let you kids play in the dirt or sand, or even jump in mud puddles.

If they get an ear infection, wait a couple of days before you call the doctor. Put up with your own child's crying for a day or two, try Tylenol or Baby aspirin for the pain. In most cases, the infection will go away. (Ask your Doctor...she/he will agree.)

Getting back to the basics might just make us healthier and make the "Superbugs" go away.

Much truth in the post staing that kids will be kids. There are way too many things out there that wasn't before. I am a firm believer in letting kids be kids but there are so many germs out there and people don't care if they spread them. I recently became a parent and I am very worried about MRSA since it seems to be deadly in some cases. I am now carring purell and we are all using it after we go inside a public place. In this day and age it is never to safe.

I totally disagree. My child has not been sick once since I have had her and she is almost 18 months. I think something I am doing is helping that. Rolling Eyes

LET me tell you something I am a proud stay at home mother and my child plays outside each and everyday. She does have a sand box and we have taken many trips to the ocean and local water areas.
How dare you say that I am keeping her in a plastic bubble. I am a parent taht cares about my childs well being.
My daughter has had every shot taht she has needed and why would you even think that I would not allow that!
I just you want a reason to try to critize my daughters up bringing and it won't work on here!!!!

You will learn, soon of what I speak ( ahem, type).

Eighteen months is still very young. Is your baby going to day care? Or, (hopefully) you or your spouse is able to be a stay at home parent to raise your child. Are you letting her play outside, perhaps in a sandbox or something? Do you take her to the park, the playground, the stores, or heaven forbid a lake or public pool? (Without keeping her in a plastic bubble.) Without washing every part of her body with disinfectant afterwards?

These are the things that need to be done to bring back the immunity that this and the previous generation has lost.

An important side note not related to this topic. I pray that you are getting your child properly immunized! By that I means the proper shats at the proper time.

I'm sorry if I offended you. Perhaps you need to reread what I wrote.

I DID NOT say that is what you're doing. But, that is what many parents do now. They've been taught that by their own parents.

I used to think exactly like this, but there is a good article in this week's Newsweek about how you don't need exposure to diseases when your young as much as you do to beneficial bacteria. It's probably a trivial point, since "playing in the dirt" probably does this, but it was a very interesting and timely article. Hopefully in the future inoculations of beneficial microbes (not that probiotic crap yogurt, they talk about that as well) will be as common as immunizations.
