When I was growing up in State College, the Borough had a leaf collection program throughout the fall. Big "leaf-sucker" trucks would come along each week, and vacuum up the leaf piles we put out at the curb. Laughing

I went on the C-Burg borough website and found this:
Quote:
LEAF COLLECTION - The Borough has a leaf collection program in the late fall.

I have yet to see any borough employees picking up leaves, but have seen many piles curbside throughout town. I have had a pile in front of my house since late September. I called the number listed on the website just before Christmas, and left a polite message asking what the deal was to get the leaves picked up. I have received no return call, and the pile is still there.

Can anyone out there give me some info on how this alleged "leaf collection program" works? Confused

I saw them picking up leaves on the north side of town along Phila Ave in the late fall, about a week before we got that early snow. I think the snow ended the process.

The leaf pickup process in the "desireable north end" is the only area receiving attention. Must be the concentration of old $$$$$.

The rest of C'burg's leaf removal program is dependent upon a snowfall. Then the plow trucks can knock down the piles and spread them evenly along the gutter.

They might as well. I watched the boro crew removing leave along Catherine St and what a pathetic outfit. Residents rake and create piles in the street. The boro dorks take one quick swipe with a loader bucket, spread out half the pile. Then they push another 25% back onto the grass and sidewalk. Then it's time for another cigarette break.

Did you ever follow the dirt distributer on the streets of the boro? Most communities call them street sweepers, but in C'burg it's dirt distributing.
All there equipment does is move the dirt from the gutter and distributes it evenly along the roadway. That is when it can get to the gutter. Most days the machine rarely gets to the gutter. The boro hasn't thought of alternate side parking in order to facilitate sweeping. The sweeper spend more time dogging parked cars.

The boro doesn't do alternate side parking to facilitate snow removal either.

BTW, I used to live in State College too. While there I heard that their leaf sucking machine sucked up a woman's cat -- or so she claimed!

OMG! That's awful! The latest Happy Valley urban legend involves an inebriated coed passed out in a leaf pile, and ***swoosh*** in she went! Laughing Laughing
