Maybe there's not posts here because they don't realize it's not spelled waynesborah. I'm going to lead the pooosh to relabel this forum.

That could be a nice little town if some of the less than desirable people weren't there...i.e. so many criminals wandering the streets.

I drive through Waynesboro a lot, and I REALLY don't like the confusing configuration of the square and its traffic lights. It takes too long to get through, with lights requiring drivers to stop multiple times within the square.

During the holidays they make it even more confusing by putting a very large x-mas tree in the middle, in effect creating a temporary traffic circle. It's hard to see around it and to figure out which traffic lights to obey.

But the townspeople like the square and have long resisted efforts to change it although the streets don't line up properly in a normal + format.

Add the crosswalk problem to that and it's really a mess.

New Bypass is being built, and should resolve some of these issues.

No more Christmas tree from what I understand.

Waynesboro has alot to offer, low crime rate, mountains, stores (No music) and lots of good folks...
Playing music in this town has been a delight, besides the fact that we only have one venue, the city has many good bands come through here...
It's funny, lots of folks from all over come here and realize how special it is

Enough with the Waynesboro bashing. I am from Waynesboro and lived there all my life until a few years ago when work in Chambersburg led to a move. In fact, my ancestors arrived here in the early 1700s and helped settle the area. Waynesboro (and yes, some of the locals DO call it Waynesbar) is a wonderful little town. It has old money - in fact I'm told the amount of wealth per capita there is quite high - and is known as such by folks in other towns like Mercersburg and Greencastle. It has a rich industrial history, wonderful architecture, small town values, low crime. However, there are two big problems with Waynesboro. 1. The lack of a vibrant downtown and 2. The fast pace of development in the townships surrounding it. There has always been a lack of leadership and foresight among Waynesboro's local government. Don't know why. There are plenty of class people living there. I guess no one wants to get involved. Unfortunately, the lack of ideas transfers to the Chamber of Commerce and business community. It seems the solution to the lack of stores and any reason to go downtown is a long, long way off. As for the development, this is a real problem. I think I read recently that there is only one farm down in that area that's in Frankin County's Farmland Preservation program. One farm! And some of the county's most fertile farmland is in that area. The officials in Washington Township have been on a mission for years to develop every square inch. Now that Quincy Township has sewer, the same thing is happening there. The lack of vision and concern about what has until recently been a wonderful way of life makes me very sad.

Bobo, our bashing is good natured so please don't get defensive.

Waynesboro is a nice place, but you're leaving out a key problem: location. It's just not along any major arteries or highways leaving it out of the tourist loop and inconvenient for industry.

I think Waynesboro will have a difficult time growing in the neat future compared to Franklin County communities along I-81.

Hey Coppy, how ya doin'? Actually, the point you make about Waynesboro being off the beaten path is, in my book, one of the best things about it. I don't happen to think that no growth is a bad thing. I am incredibly thankful that Waynesboro is not on a main artery. (Lots of astute planners will tell you that the construction of I-81 right through the heart of Franklin County was a huge mistake. Should have been built along the Tuscarora mountain side, thus saving some of the best agricultural soil in the nation. So to me, I-81 is definitely not a godsend.) It's nice to know the warehouses and truck traffic won't be coming to town. But the downside to Waynesboro's quiet location is, unfortunately, that it's such a nice place to live, people are building houses in droves. So it IS growing, just not so much in terms of commercial growth.
