Who should run for Terry Punt's seat, now that he has decided to retire?
I wonder whether Jim Taylor, who previously announced his candidacy, could be effective, since he can't seem to get along with anyone with whom he disagrees.
The other names being mentioned scare the heck out of me (Bob Thomas is one of them).
It would be nice if the Franklin County Dems could muster a credible candidate too. It's depressing to live in a one-party county! How about that Clint Barkdoll guy whom the old Haloscan posters liked so much? |

Jim Taylor seems like the biggest partisan hack I've ever heard. He has some nerve running on a platform of changing the "establishment" in Harrisburg. It's the same old crap from people like him; he's not offering anything new. I'm over the pay raise fiasco; what is he going to do for me? How is he going to work together with state Democrats? "Nothing" and "he's not" are the answers to those two questions.
I'd like this post to reflect my complete, and total NON-endorsement of Jim Taylor. |

I'm with you on this one, Coppy! But the nonsense he spouts unfortunately plays well with the rabble. |

Rock could run but it would look bad, considering he hasn't completed a term in the House yet.
And senatorial districts are a lot bigger geographically than House districts. Rock, or whoever, would need significant funds, political contacts and name recognition in York and Adams counties as well as Franklin. |

I don't have any suggestions, but it would be nice to get a moderate of any party. I think we would have a better chance of getting something done.
Oh, Coppy, you give Mr. Jim too much credit when you call him a poilitical hack--his actions sink far lower than that.
Mr. Jim should move to Kansas...

I don't think Taylor would be able to get the GOP nomination. Even in this diehard county, Republicans recognize an incompetent jerk when they see one. They need a more savvy candidate. How about Rob Kauffman or Pat Fleagle? I've heard Warren Elliott wants this seat .... and he DID just resign as commissioner.
Not that I care for any Republicans, mind you. But the Democrats have what amounts to a snowball's chance. Unless there's scandal. We can always hope! _________________ The sun, the moon and the stars would have disappeared long ago... had they happened to be within the reach of predatory human hands. ~Havelock Ellis, The Dance of Life, 1923 |

Neither has Taylor... |
Taylor hasn't held any political office as far as I know. |

You surprise me, Coppy. Don't you know Kauffman is one of those ultra-conservatives whose campaign commercials talked about how he stands for "our"(not mine!) so-called conservative family values? (translation: All you gays are an abomination and you have no rights, and ladies, don't even think about deciding what to do with your own bodies!)
In person, he IS an intelligent, personable guy - even progressive in some ways. But isn't that how Damien got as far as he did in The Omen III? _________________ The sun, the moon and the stars would have disappeared long ago... had they happened to be within the reach of predatory human hands. ~Havelock Ellis, The Dance of Life, 1923 |

Rich Alloway just dumped the Magisterial District Judge job, that the citizens voted for him to do, so he could run. _________________ onewhoknows

He will (Alloway) - heard it through the downtown grapevine.
Warren Elliott said when he left the Commissioners office he didn't want to run for elected office again - he's done with that part of his life - guess we'll see... _________________ Me thinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow. ~ Henry David Thoreau on hiking |

No grapevine necessary. It was reported in another media. _________________ onewhoknows

| Unfortunately, Alloway's office chose to give the story to other media rather than the PO today, but stay tuned. |
