The PO has an article today on Representative Shuster's plans to announce re-election plans. The article reads:

Quote:
Congressman Shuster said he will focus his compaign on a pro-growth, pro-family message of lower taxes, a strong national defense, and sustained economic growth to the voters of the 9th district.

Call me crazy, but has Shuster ever campaigned since initially being elected? I feel as if he's a shoo-in regardless of what he says or does, so he doesn't seem to do anything. Last election, i don't even remember seeing a single sign or campaign event for him.

That said, what is it going to take to get rid of him? Partisan politics aside, something like 96% of congressional incumbents are re-elected. How is that participation in the democratic process? I know, from Congress.org, that I'm unhappy with much of Congressman Shuster's voting record but I know that many of my political ideologies are much different than those in this district.

Since these forums are fairly progressive in terms of politics, does anyone think there's a chance of him losing to Tony Barr? From all the things I've read (and the extensive campaigning he did for the last election) I like him. I think he would serve us well.

Unlike Shuster who seems to have voted in direct favor of President Bush in nearly every House vote.

Not me.

He could be photographed drinking fresh hot puppy blood from Barbra Streisand's boot on a yacht in Dubai, and against a Democrat he would still win.

Far too many people around here simply (as in simple-mindedly) vote straight Republican across the ballot, and go home congratulating themselves on a job well done.

Everywhere we look, we see Republicans resigning nowadays. Word out of some D.C. friends of mine is everyone's bracing for a Democratic revolution this year. Plus the Fed and the State are bankrupt, and a lot of the onus for government funding is going to fall upon local tax authorities, which is why we're seeing pols on the local level bowing out as well.

But not Shuster. He is as close to untouchable as a GOP pol gets these days.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

It would be nice to see him have some Republican competition as well, but I'm not sure anyone is popular enough in this district. It really is like a high school election; "oh, I've heard of him and he has an (R) next to his name....".

I'd just like to see him campaign; I really hate his voting record though. People don't realize how important their local House representative is.

I'd love to see Colbert interview Shuster on his 434-part series "Better Know a District" on Pennsylvania's 9th. "The fightin' 9th!"
