Quote from Bush talking about his new stimulus package...

‘‘The other thing is, is that we got to make sure that we benefit consumers,” Bush said. ‘‘We want our consumers out there spending, and the best way to do that is broad-based tax relief.

This is going to be another one of these cash giveaways. Basically buying votes as far as Im concerned.

So - we are going to spend ourselves into solvency?

What about saving? I thought conservatives would want to...conserve?

Is ok to save? I kinda worried more about my own personal economy than I am Wal-Marts...

So what did you think of Bush's stimulus package...???

:shock:You're going to take financial advice from a multiple-failures businessman? Shocked

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm going to have to go with family well-being before Wal-Mart's well-being. edited to add>> Just noticed this is what Horse already said, but I'm keeping it in anyway.

Keep your money in the bank, preferably a high interest savings or money market account www.bankrate.com You can even open some online (one of my favorite things)

Save as much as you can (even if it's just a quarter or two)

Shop at consignment stores

Use coupons, but only for things you were going to buy anyway

Make your dollar count for something-- vote with your wallet

Always try to pay more than the minimum balance on credit cards (no balance is a good thing! ---but it doesn't mean you should go out and buy more stuff!)

I was bothered most by the part where he was going to give more "incentives" to business. When will we figure out that businesses will not invest when they know a recession is coming. Did they invest with the other Bush money - no, they spent it overseas.

I want to know why he told us two weeks ago the economy was strong and now we are in dire straights & need emergency help?

I am thinking to let the recession come and then work our way out is better than throwing money at it and then it happens.

I'm thinking you're right...

But technically we have to wait awhile longer before it's official,

'cause you know, no one gets hurt until it's official... Confused

I'm also thinking that announcement will come in about 350 days or so, so it can be the fault of whomever "wins" the election.
