Almost everyone I know has Sprint as a provider, I use my phone on roaming all the time and because of when I purchased my plan I don't have to pay extra for it. (Sprint's roaming area is actually Verizon's) My phone could actually get shut off for doing so, but when I purchased it (and it wasn't cheap) the sales associate told me that I would get reception where I live on the regular network. If I am constantly using Verizon's network then why not switch to them!?!? I want to hear from anyone who has Verizon or who has Sprint but is experiencing the same problem. Thanks guys! Very Happy

Wow, I've never heard of anyone using Sprint. In fact, I heard an economic report on the radio the other about how they're getting trounced by Vz and ATT... they're constantly losing customers and may soon face some tough decisions on their wireless service.

I have Verizon and my coverage is great, but the service isn't. I also hate their hip, "our phones do everything except be a phone" commercials.

I'm thinking of switching to ATT, but I can tell you that Vz is better coverage-wise in this area.

I recently did some research on this very subject for work. AT&T and Verizon have much better coverage across Franklin, Adams, York, and Dauphin counties for cell service than Sprint does. Data coverage is best with Verizon although their Broadband and V Cast coverage in Franklin County is less than stellar. AT&T has pretty good coverage with their 3G broadband network up around Harrisburg but not down this way.

Tracfone - no plans, no bills...their network is actually pretty good...even up against the mountain...and its just a plain phone...no other distracting "features"

I paid the one time fee for double minutes...

I spend about 25 bucks a month...

That's good to know; I think that AT&T's broadband 3G is superior to Vz's anyway and I will certainly consider switching if I decide to go toward more of a PDA phone. V Cast is worthless to me but if people really want to listen to Fergie songs and watch commercials on their phone, maybe it's something they'd consider.

This area is still fairly rural being pretty far from any specific metro area. Not having 3G support was a big criticism of the iPhone, but there is so little 3G coverage, it wouldn't matter much. I can't see how anyone would make an investment like that though without supporting wireless broadband.

If you just want reliable cell phone service though, Verizon or At&T should be fine, particularly along the highway. The further you get from 81, the shoddier the service. That's just part of living the simple life.

I agree. My costs average out to only about $10 per month. I've found they have better overall coverage them previous AT&T and Verizon services I've had, and I never have to pay a roaming charge anywhere.

I'm looking into Tracfone; will they let me keep my current number?

A quick Google search turned up the ability to transfer unused minutes and your old number from an old Tracfone to a new one, but no clear answer on bringing the number from a different service. If you give them a call to find out, let us know!

It's been a couple years since I had one, but it wasn't possible to transfer from Tracphone to another carrier.

Not sure about the other way around...

I honestly think that A TT is one of the better ones. Years ago I had Sprint and they sucked. It was excellent in Hagerstown but around here it was crappy.
I have two lines and my bill averages 80.00 a month. Not bad for 2 lines.......But that is my opinion.

Anyone have any experience with T-Mobile?

I have AT&T at the moment, and I had no complaints except for my own stupidity in being too cheap to spring for a data plan. The texts get surprisingly pricey without one...

Sprint charges $15 a month for unlimited texting, which really is worth it if you are are familiar with how high of a bill you can rack up if you go over your limit!!!

Wow..15.00 is high for unlimited but I do use texting but not that amount. I love the bew blackberrys so that may be why I love ATT.
I have dealt with Kelly at the Greencastle/Waynesboro location and she is very helpful and honest. I hate sales people that will sell you junk to make a nickel. Give them a call...Mid Atlantic Protel I think!
