Which part is stereotypical about older folks?
The part about the Capital Theaters regular clientèle being old? That's pretty much a fact.
The part about the Capital Theater showing films and performances that cater to seniors? That's pretty much a fact too... let's see.
"Ballroom Dancing." I bet that really packs in the younger generations.
Upcoming movies: "Gone with the Wind," "Roman Holiday," "Casablanca," "Maltese Falcon"
All great movies, perhaps some of the best of all time (except "Roman Holiday.") But not appealing to a younger audience. I don't even think those films are packing in a middle aged audience. Of all the films in the world, they're limited to showing a few movies that can be seen every week on cable.
Oh, and a performance of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" Sounds like the perfect opportunity for Capitol Theater regulars to bring their grandchildren out and then for a sandwich at Main Street Deli (if they're open).
You realize that there's nothing wrong with any of this; shows appealing to senior citizens and all. They are probably the only group supporting the theater. I just thought that maybe if they threw in some modern art-house films or showed something a bit more cutting edge, then more people would show an interest in the theater. I would.
I'm not an ageist; but I do think that maybe the Capitol Theater is. |

i think they should try to emulate some of the carlisle theatre too...indy flicks that aren't at "normal" movie houses.
i actually do like that they're showing old movies...i just think the time that they show them is stupid. lol...
gone with the wind would be SWEET on the big screen. |

I like that they're showing old films too, don't get me wrong; but they should mix them in with newer, Independent films that normally don't get a showing in this area and at times when people who have jobs would actually go. That would certainly compel me to go back, even for the classics.
The times they show the films alone (Wednesdays at 2 PM) simply proves that they are not catering to the community at large, but clearly the retirees. Again, nothing wrong with this, but this is why i don't (and never will) go to the Capitol Theater. |

Exciting news! I read this just now in Mayor Lagiovane's Blog (which is excellent by the way, you should all check it out).
| Mayor Lagiovane wrote: | | I'm also working with several community members to create a Film Club that will show Foreign and Independent movies as well as kid-friendly cartoons at the Capitol. |
This is just the sort of thing I like to hear and basically addresses my biggest gripe on the Capitol. The young people here are an untapped resource. Wake up Chambersburg!
And...
| Quote: | | BTW, I'll use this post as a way to advertise something new for downtown. I am President of the newly formed Cumberland Valley Film Club. The Club is preparing a membership drive ($20 per person) and hopes to begin showing foreign and independent movies at the Capitol this Spring. It will also have family movie festivals, offbeat movies for teens (Rocky Horror) and cartoons for the kiddies. I'll keep everyone updated on the progress of the Club. |

The Capitol Theater really is nice since its been renovated. I was there this week and I have to say that I really wish they had more appealing shows or movies playing more often. Again, i know the mayor is working on this, but it seems like there's a lot of potential there.
Just another example of untapped potential downtown.
Why don't they play award-winning films and serve beer? I believe that the Majestic does this? Does that sound like a good idea to anyone? |

RHPS? Oh my.
Would the solid citizenry of Chambersburg allow that?!

I really loved the way, you beat the other girls "With whips and chains!" to the brides bouquet. |
Between 1978 and 1983 I saw that movie at least 25 times (uh, that I remember...) _________________ "You know the score pal. If you're not cop, you're little people!" |

| We have it on DVD. I must have seen it at least 50-60 times. I swear to God, it rains everytime we watch it. We could be in the middle of a drought and we'll watch Rocky Horror and it 'll rain. I'd love to see it in a theatre again. The last time I saw it in a theatre, I lived in Vegas. |
