The administration and moderators of The Public Opinion Soapbox are pleased to announce an ongoing Best of the Forums contest!
How it works
Each Friday, the moderators will evaluate threads created during the previous week, based on informative content, admirable sentiment, thought-provoking wisdom, flat-out hilarity, or anything else that strikes our fancy.
The contest specifically recognizes posters who create winning threads, but it’s also a reflection of the thread's overall content and subsequent posts by those inspired by the topic or the clarity of its theme.
If nothing exceptional springs to mind on a particular Friday, there will be no winner for that week. We’re not going to settle for something mediocre just for the sake of naming a winner.
Furthermore, any thread subject to heavy moderation — such as deleted posts or sanctioned posters — will be ineligible for consideration at the sole discretion of the moderators.
Rewards
— A new forum will be maintained under General Discussion in which Best of the Forums threads will be stickied, meaning they will remain there forever in the chronological order they’re posted. Winning threads will be locked to prevent further comments once they’re stickied, so be sure to post often in those exceptional threads.
— A list will be maintained of all posters who create winning Best of the Forums threads. Repeat winners will earn forum ranks. These signs of status recognize those who consistently start relevant and popular threads, in addition to heavy contributors with large post counts.
— Winning threads may be reprinted (condensed as needed) on the editorial page of Public Opinion’s Sunday print edition.
