Anyone else excited for baseball to start up? I think a few teams in both the AL and NL made some moves to really contend this year. Most notably Detroit, Anaheim, and Arizona. Thoughts?

Also, I know last year the extra innings package was only added to Comcast at the last minute. Does anyone know if they will have it again this year or will it be just on Direct TV?

Yes, I'm VERY excited for baseball to finally start up. Pitchers and catchers... just around the corner. A lot of exciting stuff happening with a lot of teams but there's still a lot that can happen. Will the Twinkies trade Santana? I know I'm crossing my fingers...

I'm a Mets fan Cool

As far as I know, Extra Innings will be available through Comcast again this year. Despite how great it is, I may opt for MLB.tv to watch the games online. The quality has improved and the Extra Inning games are usually broadcast in really bad SD.

But do you know what the biggest bummer of living here is? We technically live in FOUR markets. That means a lot of games are blacked out, especially if you're an NL East fan. Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington games are all blacked out on Comcast here. And since we aren't close enough to any Metro area to see all of the games locally, we pretty much live in the worst place on Earth for a package service like MLB Extra Innings.

So I'm going to try registering for MLB.tv with a fake North Dakota address or something so hopefully they won't black out half the games I want to see (although I'm sure they go by IP address).

You will be happy to know that Santana did just get traded to the Mets. They now have a 72 hour period to negotiate a contract extension with him. There's a wonderful website called mlbtraderumors that is great for all kinds of rumors and updates.

Coppy, you are right in that we are in a horrible location for the extra innings package. I can't tell you how many times I went to watch a game last year and it was blacked out. MLB.tv is great too though. I had both last year.

Oh, and I'm a Red Sox fan. Have been long before they won their last two World Series.

Go Sox!! Regardless of games on TV, I love it when the Sox play in Balt., Philly, or Pitts, as opposed to Fenway you can actually get tickets and they are reasonably priced and whats even better since the O's suck so bad we always outnumber the O's fans. Nothing beats a day at the ballpark.
Pitchrs and Catchers report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed Irish. I love going to a Sox/O's game in Baltimore and hearing the crowd start chanting "Let's Go Red Sox", haha. Although it's nice to go to a game when the stadium is packed and people are really into the game.

Have you ever been to Fenway? I was there once back in 2001 against the Mariners. It is an experience I will never forget. The seating is absolutely horrible, but the atmosphere and energy there make all of that a moot point.

The Padres?! How'd you end up a Pads fan Queenie?

I have to admit, as an avid fantasy baseball participant, Jake Peavy really sealed the deal for me last year. He's unstoppable. I don't know if they have the offense to make it to the post season this year; especially with the improvement of other teams in the west.

Actually there is a Mid Atlantic Sports Network MASN that broadcast both the O's and Nat's don't recall the cable channel #'s maybe 51 for Nat's and 53 for O's somewhere in the 50's though.
Yes Tele have been to fenway many times (I grew up in New England).
When I was a kid in the late 60's my uncle's brother inlaw was friendly w/ Russ Gibson who played for the sox a season or two we went to Fenway as his guest almost every home stand and got to hang out on the field, in the clubhouse, and the dugout during pregame and then sat in the players family section for the game. And of course my family always went to a couple of games every year. My last visit was in 05 when I took my son to Fenway for his 10th birthday.
Fenway is a great ballpark!
Glad to see some others from the Red Sox Nation in the area.

Are you booing them because they're the Braves or 'cause they got no heart?

Peavy was about the only pitcher on my fantasy team last year that did anything. I was plagued with injuries.

The NL West is going to be really tough this year. I'd be surprised if anyone in that division wins 90 games this year. Arizona and LA both upgraded their teams and have a lot of good young players coming up. Colorado obviously is on the rise as well. I still think their pitching is suspect though.

Channel 50 is the channel the O's are on. I can't stand listening to Palmer call games though. They have been playing classice O's games lately though.

I must say I'm a little jealous Irish1. I would have loved to have been able to attend Sox games on a regular basis.

It's ashame that it's so expensive to go to MLB games now. Even though it's nice to be able to get fairly "cheap" tickets to O's games, the price of food and drinks really hurts your pocket. Especially if you have a family to pay for.

If you're ever in Atlanta on game day, Turner Field sells tickets for nosebleed seats for between $1-$15. Only go on sale game day at the ticket booth and I've never known them to sell out completely. It was one of Ted Turner's requirements when the field was being built, bless his crazy heart!
