Yeah, I agree on the crowd at Relax. It always seems to be a weird mixture of people there. It's nearly impossible to have a conversation with anyone in there when a band is playing. During the warmer months it is nice to go there and sit on the patio though. Oh and FYI, Norland just recently put a deck on the back, so they will have some outdoor seating now as well.
Coppy, I definitely love my beer. When I first started getting into beer I drank a lot of hefeweizens. I've since turned into somewhat of a hop head, but I enjoy almost all styles.
Also, something I wish we had around here was a place that let you mix and match six packs or cases. I'm not sure if that has anything to due with PA laws though. I know in other States they let you do that. |

Have you tried Troeg's Nugget Nectar? I love this time of year, but it's only available for a few weeks it seems. It keeps getting more popular every year, which is great to see, especially for Troegs right in our backyard. Definitely a hop-head's dream come true.
There used to be a little place in Hagerstown, Potomac Wine & Spirits, that sold mix & match six packs. I think it has closes though, and now the best place is in Frederick... a little far but worth the trip. I think it's called Ridgeway spirits or something?
I've never seen anything like mix & match six packs in PA, since only bars are allowed to sell six packs. If Knute's does it, then it's probably a horrible selection at astronomical prices. The Maryland mix and matches were usually around 6 or 7 bucks for a pretty nice variety of beers.
That would be tough here since a six pack of Corona in PA is about $10 at any bar around. |

I realize that this might not help too much because it's three hours from Chambersburg, BUT...
If anyone is traveling or wants somewhere to check out, there's a store down here called Foods of all Nations. It's small, smaller than the Butcher Shoppe, but they have a CRAZY selection and it's predominately ethnic and specialty food. Nearly everything is imported. They have a huge selection of meats, cheeses, candies, produce, etc.
And the reason for me posting it here...mix and match six-packs. Yeah, far to travel for them, but the store is a cool experience overall. Especially for foodies. |

Ah, Mad Elf; one of my personal favorites. So here's my question... what does Knutes charge for a sixer of that?
I did a bit of comparison shopping on this. Mad Elf is expensive; it's nearly 11%ABV and it's a limited release/high demand beer. I'm more than willing to pay a premium... but here's what I found.
Beer distributors have the best prices on beer in PA, but you have to buy a case. A case of Mad Elf at In&Out beverage (which has the best selection of any distributor in the area IMO, better than C'Burg Bev) costs about $48. That comes to about $12/six pack. I have a hard time believing that Knutes sells six packs of Mad Elf for less than $15 or $16 (probably more).
In Maryland, a six pack of Mad Elf costs just under $11. |

I just wish we could walk into any store and buy alcohol. While on Vacation this year it was sooo nice going into Food Lion and being able to get groceries and alcohol. I had some Bartle & James Margarita wine coolers. They were soooo Yummy! Nothing like being on the beach with them next to you! I have tried to find them around her and no such luck! I did find an online site that will ship them but they are expensive!

I love Nugget Nectar. In fact I have some in my fridge right now. I enjoy a lot of the stuff that Troeg's does. I've been meaning to get up to the brewery to take the tour again and get a growler of nugget nectar.
Potomac Wine & Spirits was one of my favorite places. It is probably the reason I got into beer. One year when I was in Boston I stopped off in a little pub and chatted with the bartender for a bit. I was asking him if he had ever heard of Yuengling, which of course he didn't. I then asked if they had any popular local micro brews that he recommened. He suggested Magic Hat #9, which at the time I really enjoyed.
Anyway, when I got home I emailed Magic Hat to see if there were any distributers close to Chambersburg. At that time Magic Hat wasn't distributed in PA. I received an email a day or two later which pointed me to Potomac. I was blown away the first time I walked in. Ever since then I love trying new beers. I do believe Potomac is closed now. Last few times I went down the shelves were pretty empty and the clerk told me the owner was having money problems. |

Tele: I have two words for you... Wooden Keg. It's in Hagerstown, not much farther out of the way than Potomac. They don't have mix-and-match, but, their selection is excellent. The guys who work there are knowledgeable and love to talk about beer and offer recommendations; they're really into the Imperial Stouts (and who can blame them for that?). Their selection also rotates just enough that, despite being a small place, there's always something new. With they had a better selection of 22 oz. bottles, but it's still pretty good. Plus they pride themselves on having all kinds of hard-to-find Dogfish Head beers.
I always thought Potomac was a little shady. When I was there over Fourth of July weekend, the owner was bragging to me about how many cases of beer he sold... almost all Miller Light.
Godlove's Liquors (which I believe is now called Bacchus) is just around the corner from the Hagerstown YMCA and now has a much better selection of beer, particularly imports.

yes, it is quite awesome. "Godlove's Liquors." Of course
The best part is that I'm pretty sure the original owner's name was Godlove. |

Coppy, I'm writing this down or else I'll forget. I believe I know where it is as well. Never thought to stop in though. Dogfish Head is another one of my favorite breweries so I'm excited to see what all they carry.
Also, Coppy if you like Nugget Nectar I'd suggest trying Bells HopSlam. I don't think it's quite as good as Nectar, but it's a very good DIPA. I know the Norland Pub carries it in six packs and In and Out has it as well. |

In re to the name Godlove's Liquors - reminds me of what Ben Franklin was fond of saying - "Wine (beer) is constant proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Best, Pepper |
