I hear ya anonymous. They're saying it's better than Fargo. Good news since their movies have been lacking lately. Too bad, like most great films, it is on limited release. Gotta make room out there for White Chicks 2 or whatever garbage films are coming out next week. Sometimes limited movies play in Harrisburg, but I'll likely have to wait for DVD like most.

Movies that are essential viewing. Hmm. Way too many to list. I will say just about anything directed by Robert Altman. As for my favorite, I'm almost embarrassed to say, but I think it just might be "Breakfast at Tiffany's." Love Blake Edwards.

I'm almost more excited that it's a cormac mcarthy movie, but I do love the Coens. A few years ago my high school buddies and I went to Lebowski fest in Louisville. I got to give the real life dude one of my buddy's cigarettes in the bowling alley. |

finally saw it last night, it was incredible. they followed the book almost perfectly, and the few things they did change did not detract from the larger meaning. best movie so far this year that i've seen. academy award worthy. |

citizen kane is to die for. if you haven't seen it, you need to see it. brilliant.
i read up on the list too grapes of wrath (read the book first, tho)....that's another must see.
and there's always other 'classics' too...jane eyre (orson wells' version, of course)...i always enjoy 'barefoot in the park'...
i'm a HUGE fan of Dogma...(sadly, i own the vhs, dvd and special edition dvd---just in case!)...clever...and i've found that usually people don't like it the first time but it starts to grow on them)....when it's on comedy central i usually have to sit and watch it. for the 70th time...lol
shawn of the dead and hot fuzz are a hoot...brit flicks rock!
good things out there, eh? |

I recently purchased the Monster Squad special edition. I had no idea Shane Black co-wrote it.
I rather enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

I thought the first 30-45 minutes were fantastic; it was clever and original, the dialog was great but I thought it just sort of derailed about halfway through and I found that I had completely lost interest in the story. It redeemed itself by the end, but it was definitely one of those movies where I thought a chunk of it sort of veered off course. |

If anyone has not seen wither of these as yet...rent / buy them today. They are both fantastic in their own right. I actually liked Hot Fuzz more. The set up for such a funny payoff was genius.

I'm more of a Shaun fan because of my campy love for the zombie genre, but Hot Fuzz was also fantastic.
I'm not one to enjoy British humor either; for fear of being tarred and feathered, I've never enjoyed Monty Python (or the endless barrage of poor, British-accented re-enactments I've received from people over the years) or your typical BBC comedy show.
But Ricky Gervaise changed all that for me... |

I really do love the zombie flicks too, what do you think about the "running zombies"
Slightly off topic: If you want a fun read, check out Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide and the comic The Walking Dead (its essentially an ongoing zombie movie).
