Running zombies are terrifying.

And also so very wrong.

Personally, I don't consider the "28 Days Later" running zombies to be true zombies. I'm a George A. Romero purist and actually find the skulking, slow-moving zombies to be scarier than the running ones.

That said, I'm not anti-running zombies. I thought 28 Days Later was pretty good and I'm always open to new interpretations.

I'm also a fan of the Max Brooks (son of Mel) books The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.

I agree about 28 days later being something different, but the remake of Dawn of the Dead brought in the runners.

For a remake it was pretty enjoyable.

I don't like the runners, because I like watching human stupidity prevail. In the original everyone would have been fine if they had not made stupid mistakes. I love it.

World War Z is slated to become a movie, I think J Michael Strackzynski is going to be handling the screen play.

You're right, the 2004 Dawn of the Dead did have running zombies; I have to say though, that is my favorite of the Romero remakes.

But yeah, the point of the zombie flick is to show that human emotion is what ends up getting everyone dead. The "smart" zombies in Land of the Dead was a bit of a disappointment.

I've been reading up on the upcoming World War Z film, and I'm pretty excited about it. I honestly didn't know who J Michael Strackzynski was without looking him up; I guess I'm not that much into the uber-nerd space series, but from what I've read, Babylon 5 is considered to be pretty good along modern sci fi standards.

I think JMS still holds a record for writing an entire season of tv by himself. (Maybe season 3 of B5).

I enjoyed that show.

Land of the Dead dissapointed me at first, but it has grown on me. Romero essentially started this whole thing rolling, so its his rules, lol.

Day of the Dead had the first smart zombie, so we should not have been too surprised.

Also if you go back and watch the original NOTLD, i think the first zombie that attacks Barbara uses a rock to try and bash the window of her car in. So there you have it.

<Side> I forget where I came across it, but I think Romero and Russo never intended for the monsters to be zombies, but they wanted the to me ghouls. I wish I could remember where I got that.

That pretty much sums up the genius of the concept.

Oh yes. It is a real treat. I like that it is not a send up in genre like the atrocious _____ Movies. (Date Movie, Epic Movie, etc.) Instead it is a loving tribute with horror elements.

What's up with all of those anyway? Why do they keep making them? Aren't the directors ashamed of themselves?

I'd guess they keep making because people keep spending money to see them?

Although I can't remember how long it's been since the last one came out, maybe we on the downside of the trend...

Meet the Spartans came out about 2 weeks ago at #1 in the box office.

People just need to say No. Otherwise this will continue.

Now I wanted to see Walk Hard which was in the same vein of movie, but looked to be done in the spirit of Airplane and Top Sercet as opposed to the modern formula.

Has anyone seen Walk Hard? Opinions?

Also a little gem I rather enjoy...Idiocracy. Has anyone seen this and your opinion?

Idiocracy was great, at least in it's idea... the delivery wasn't great, but it got its point across. It wasn't as put-together as, say, Office Space, but the opening montage showing the family trees of smart vs. dumb people is priceless.

It also makes me think that, just maybe, "Ow, My Balls" would be better than some of the reality shows we currently have...

I think some of the actors understood the future idiots better than others. Justin Long and Dax Sheppard really had it down well.

The movie terrifies me because I can see it has already begun to happen, as the family tree exercise in the beginning suggested.

I absolutely loved the advertising in the film. You can see at one point the smart people did achieve some technological triumphs, that the current state of humanity has let simply run down.

Yes, "Ow my Balls" would probably be a great show for MTV.
