I can't post definitive brunch hours for them, but I believe it is only Sundays, probably until 1 PM. The brunch is fantastic, but very small (as is the building). The cream cheese stuffed french toast is probably their hallmark, but they make a fantastic egg souffle, meatballs in a cream sauce, broiled salmon, potatoes, bacon, fruit and great soups... it's good stuff. I haven't been there for a while, but it is pricey and I would recommend at least business casual dress. They typically ask for reservations on arrival, but I've been able to walk-in... it's not crowded since no one even knows where the place is. Definitely one of C'burg's hidden gems, for brunch and dinner. |

Where is Emilys?
Located in the former "Cats Thai House" on the southwest corner of 4th and E Catherine Sts., across from poorly operated 7P's. Emilys is C'burgs Numero Uno, and i'm not referring to the Chicago Grill. The best(period). |

So how can we decide who has the best breakfast when, in my humble opinion, all of the aforementioned establishments all serve pretty much the same thing (and none are open on Sundays)?

From a macro view...yes, they are all the same. But within that group or class of restaurant - there are clearly some that are better than others.
I'll say it again - Johnnie is by far the best of the bunch - for many reasons. Particularly for breakfast.
But - the French Onion soup at 30 West is the best around...better than what the "fine dining" places serve.
So - you have to consider these places within their own context... _________________ Do everything that's in you, you feel to be your part... |

| And I understand that; I also haven't written off your Johnnie's for breakfast suggestion. While, to me, all of these places have identical menus, I realize the quality of food may differ from place to place. |

|
|
I've just discovered this forum and have to make a pitch for the best breakfast spot in Chambersburg. Imho, of course.
MOLLY's - the new incarnation of the old Molly Pitcher Waffle Shop. The new owners are veterans of Nick's Airport Inn in Hagerstown. Anna and Theo took over about a year ago - changed the decor and wrote a fresh menu.
They serve breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday. I love their eggs scrambled with feta and spinach. They do a Bananas Foster waffle - cannot personally vouch for them but friends have raved.
Their homemade soups are incredibly delicious and inventive. During the Icefest they had extended hours and it was packed. Different flavors of creme brulee for lunchtime dessert, yummy!
I'm not affiliated with this establishment but I have been taking all my friends there for lunch or breakfast. Now I can't get my friends to go anywhere else!
Give it a try, you'll be pleased.

| Thanks for the suggestion pepper; I honestly wouldn't have even considered Molly's since it seems like such an afterthought and never seems open. Do you know what their regular hours are? It seems like a long way from Nick's Airport Inn; perhaps they should spruce up the exterior and modernize their advertising. |

Coppy - they have already spruced up the exterior* as well as the interior. It's no longer smoked-filled with grimy booths. Instead of the wooden plaques with cliches, there's an eclectic assortment of art on the walls. The best advertising is word-of-mouth, not sure what else they are doing. They are open Monday through Saturday, I'm thinking they open as early as 8am and close after lunch, possibly 3pm. I live in the neighborhood and wish they had Sunday hours but I can't blame people for wanting a day of rest. Downtown is generally not a big draw on Sundays although Olympia Ice Cream Parlor does well.
*From reading your posts on other threads I do wonder how long it has been since you've strolled down Main Street and visited the shops and restaurants.

Pepper, I agree about Mollys. I don't go out for breakfast very often, but when I do I usually go there. They did an excellent job remodeling, especially the interior, and I really enjoy the food. I think the prices may be a little more expensive then places like texas lunch or greenvillage, but they aren't ridiculous.
Good atmosphere and good service as well. |

It's been a while; certainly not since the weather was warmer. I think anyone else will agree that the downtown as a whole isn't a big draw. It's great to see the mayor, council and local business owners change that though. I have some high hopes for the downtown over the next few years.
I will certainly be trying Molly's for breakfast on your recommendation. I do wish more places had Sunday hours, if not for any reason than to compete with chains. I can understand small business owners needing a day off for various reasons, but it would make more sense to me if it was a Monday or Tuesday. I think Sundays could potentially be a big day, particularly for places that serve breakfast to the after-church crowd.
I've still never driven by the Baker's Loaf while they are open. They must close as soon as they see me coming. |
